Taking the plunge and buying a house...this city girl is a wreck!
Okay, so we saw a house in Woodlawn in the Bronx and I like it. I don't LOVE it, but I like it. Perfect size for a family that has never owned a home before. However, the kitchen is SMALL.....I mean Small! and in reality, there is no way to enlarge it. The backyard is a perfect size for my kidlets. Not to hard to take care of, small porch and the house appears to be in great condition. The price is right, but I just don't know if I can leave the city...but I know that I need to for space!
Help! Any advice?

I would never move anywhere if I didn't love it or at least love the most important rooms to you. The fact that the kitchen is so small and you cannot expand it, I would pass on this house.

Since you dont LOVE it- I would pass and keep looking. There will be other houses.
The fact that the kitchen is so small and there is no way to extend, I think thats a big downer. For me at least, the kitchen is where we spend alot of time. We cook every night. It depends on your situation, but I think with no possible room for expansion, you may regret it down the road.

Re: Taking the plunge and buying a house...this city girl is a wreck!
OK I'm going to be honest here... I thought I was ready to leave the city, knew we needed space etc. My first year here was the roughest year of my life here bc I found it so hard to get used to. If I didnt LOVE my actual house, I think I really would have lost my mind. I'd wait to find something you absolutely love if you're the least bit apprehensive about leaving.
Btw, I grew up in the Bronx (Throggs Neck) and had tons of friends from Woodlawn so FM me if you have any questions!

That's a big step and a big investment. LOVE the house you buy-I would keep looking. It's a buyer's market.

Re: Taking the plunge and buying a house...this city girl is a wreck!
Thanks ladies........The problem is that houses in Woodlawn don't come on the market very often. They are sold very quickly to family and friends.
I feel that if we buy it, we will have our foot in the neighborhood and there could always be another house in the future. The house I really loved was sold very quickly 3 years ago.
I think we need to look at it again and bring my mother and my gay husband.

Personally I would wait a little longer to find a house that I felt was perfect.
It's a big step to leave the city. When we got married, we bought a house in the suburbs that we both loved. I missed the city so much that we moved back. It's hard enough to leave the city. You should at least love your house.
Now our family is growing and we will probably be moving out of the city once again...permanently this time.

Where are you thinking of moving?
