Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I am very worried about all this talk of terrorists growing stronger than ever since 9-11.
Is anyone else worried about the recent news that it appears they have an attack planned for this summer?
I feel so sad right now, I am tired of worrying about this but feel like we are such sitting ducks here in NY.
Sorry to be a downer.

I don't worry about it because I can't control it.
I will contact security if there's a suitcase/bag in a heartbeat.
I can move to some tiny town in the Midwest that is sucking away federal funds from NY because some j@ckazz congressmen agrees that it's deemed a "possible terror target".
It's really all I can do short of voting.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Honestly, there are so many more immediate things to worry about right now that I can't worry about an unforseeable event. If they can prevent it - wonderful, but if they can't - there is nothing I could do about it anyway.
This one of the risks of living in a high profile area, I'm willing to take that risk for the benefits.

I'm not worried on a level that I would stop doing and seeing the things that I want...ex. traveling, public transportation, ect. I just hate the thought that no matter what, innocent people will get hurt and lose their lives.. Unfortunately, all the worrying in the world isn't going to change that......

I can not worry about the "possibilty" of something happening because I will not let the terrorist win by making me rethink my every move. I still travel & visit places that are "high" risk. It is part of the daily life that we all live.
Of course, if I see something suspicious, I will definately call the officials but I will not alter my daily schedule because "something" could happen

WE can control only our own actions and thoughts and with that I choose to live in the now and try not to worry.

This is what I am worried about - innocent people being killed and hurt because of another attack that if it happens - still won't give terrorists any satisfaction

I'm actually more paranoid of being in a bad car accident. The odds of that happening are astronomically higher than being in a terrorist attack....

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I am not really worried about this particular threat. I always have it the back of my mind that we will be attacked at some point again. I think it is inevitable. I am more shocked that we haven't had an attack since 9-11. Of course, I hope that we can stop any attacks before they materialize. We must lives our lives just as we normally would. Many countries have been dealing with the threat of terror on a daily basis and they continue on with life business as usual. As Barb said, if I notice anything suspicious I would report it in a heartbeat.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
No, I'm not worried about it, and I'm not going to stop enjoying my summer because of it.
I cannot control it, and I refuse to live in fear because of all this. I would rather die suddenly in the midst of enjoying life to the fullest than live out the rest of my days in fear, not doing the things I love because some group of schmucks thinks they can control me with their scare tactics.
I'm not saying that I'm not cautious and careful -- but I'm not going to be preoccupied with it.
Is it scary? Yes, of course! However, that's their objective. If I live in constant fear, that's like telling them they've won.

If I worry each time they said there would be an attack, I would never leave my house. We have to live our lives or we are giving into the fear. We will not be able to prevent it, if they want to get us they will. Its like the old army game, hurry up and wait. IF I saw something fishy I would report it.

I wish I could be so rational. I know the fear is what gives the terrorist their jollies and make them thrive all the more.
It's hard to be rational about the risks, and the fact that worrying wont solve anything (since we lost someone very close to us on 9/11 and know many others who died on that day). My Dh was there (still works in that area) so it's a thought that enters my mind very often.
For those who put it out of their mind, were you close to anyone who died on 9-11? I wonder if I would feel the same way if my DH didnt work in a high risk area or if we didnt know anyone personally.
Then again, I am a worrier anyone so I probably would feel that way simply b/c I live in NY.
I lost more than a dozen people I would consider very close to my family. My brother was across from the towers in a nearby building that ultimately collapsed. He watched the whole thing happen out of his office windown and even watched people on the top floors of the tower jump. He walked for miles in rubber boots and a gas mask to escape. My aunt worked in the towers and came out of the subway as the first plane hit - she watched the whole thing. She got the last ferry back to staten island. We didn't hear from my cousin (NYPD) for a couple of days and did not know if he survived. The father of my friend at the time was the pilot of one of the planes.
I went through all the fear, anxiety, etc., and then one day I finally realized I cannot live my life like this anymore. I will NEVER forget all those who lives changed forever on 9/11, but I know that living in fear and being so sad an anxious all of the time does NOT honor those innocent people who lost their lives. I think of all the people we lost that day and try to think how they would live their lives if they had survived. I am trying to live my life that way because I feel that's the biggest honor I can give them.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I want to add, too -- Of course I get nervous and worry when I hear these things on the news. However, I just cannot live in constant fear and worry all the time anymore. Life is too short and too precious. If you are really having trouble coping, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE talk to your doctor and consider talking to a therapist.
Just because bad things happen in the world does NOT mean that you are not entitled to live a full and happy life.
I think everyone has some fear and some worry - but if it's gotten to the point that it's making you irrational, please talk to someone.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Thanks. I appreciate it. Just reading this thread makes me think I am the minority here so I better try to change my thinking on this.
My Dh says to me all the time, that he has to put it out of his mind too. So I do hear from him, a more rational person who doesnt let the fear get to him. I am going to have to try to think like that but it is so hard to change !

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I don't worry about what is out of my control. I know there is more to be said than some guys "gut feeling" but untill it is all said I cannot make any lifestyle changes. I still fly on planes at least twice a month. I still take the subway whan I go to the city. It's all just part of life. I believe in fate and destiny to an extent so when its my time to go, so be it.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I'll admit, it's always in the back of my mind and I'm a little worried aobut it esp. now that Im working in the city, but I don't let that dictate my life... I can't, it's not fair.
I do however, keep a pair of flip flops and sneakers at my desk at all time in case I need to make a run for it!

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I don't worry about it as much as I used too-I used to come to work in fear everyday and realized I can't live my life like that-I will make myself sick..if it's going to happen -it's going to happen I have no control over it!
