Thanks. I appreciate it. Just reading this thread makes me think I am the minority here so I better try to change my thinking on this.
My Dh says to me all the time, that he has to put it out of his mind too. So I do hear from him, a more rational person who doesnt let the fear get to him. I am going to have to try to think like that but it is so hard to change !
Stress over things you cannot control is EXTREMELY unhealthy. Stress over little things (flat tire, bad day at work, etc.) is not the kind that physially harms you. Stress over things you cannot control ages you and has a very bad impact on your heart. There are both physical and psychological reasons for working on this.
There's also no shame in talking to a doctor if you need to!

I do however, keep a pair of flip flops and sneakers at my desk at all time in case I need to make a run for it!
Esp after that blackout we had that year! You never know what kind of shoes you will need to get home, lol.

For those who put it out of their mind, were you close to anyone who died on 9-11? I wonder if I would feel the same way if my DH didnt work in a high risk area or if we didnt know so many who lost their lives personally.
Then again, I am a worrier anyway so I probably would feel that way simply b/c I live in NY.
I was there on 9-11, thankfully, I didn't lose anyone in the attacks. But I worked a block away and was out on the street when the second plane hit. I saw a lot of things I can never erase from my mind. But, I think living through it made me even more resolute that I will not let the terrorists win and I will go on with my life as usual. Fly in planes, go to shows, walk around NYC, ride the subways etc. I do admit that it creeps in my mind when I am riding the Staten Island Ferry or on a plane but I don't let it over power my thoughts.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I do think about it from time to time. I make sure there is a plan if, God forbid, there is something we need to get away from (ie. one of those missing Russian suitcase nukes). I have extra water in the house, extra food, cash on hand, my car always has 1/2 tank or more.
I just live my life and hope those in charge who are supposed to protect us do their job, REAL WELL. although it makes me wonder why our borders aren't patrolled...

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Honestly, I don't worry. WHat's the point? There's nothign I can do about it, and I'm sure they're constantly planning terrorist attacks. I just try to be as present as I can in my own daily life and not worry about the bigger scheme of things. Like I said, there's nothing that I, Rachel, can do to stop the terrorists. So why bother worrying?

DH and I say too that we always must keep at least 1/2 tank of gas too.
On that major blackout, I was stranded b/c I didnt have gas!!! So I learned my lesson that day about the gas.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I worry, because DH works for the LIRR. I worry, because so many of my friends and family members are FDNY. We lost my cousin on 9/11, and I think about him all the time. I have trouble coping with those thoughts. Right now, I'm crying as I type. But I deal with the unknown on an "ignorance is bliss" level. I don't watch the news.

When I lived in the city...I worried all the time...I had serious anxiety about it.... I used to imagine every loud bang I heard was a bomb....Since I've moved out to LI I am alot better. I still worry, but am better able to cope with it living in LI

I can admit I would feel even better if I moved out of state. But its just not an option for us.

No, I'm not worried about it, and I'm not going to stop enjoying my summer because of it.
I cannot control it, and I refuse to live in fear because of all this. I would rather die suddenly in the midst of enjoying life to the fullest than live out the rest of my days in fear, not doing the things I love because some group of schmucks thinks they can control me with their scare tactics.
I'm not saying that I'm not cautious and careful -- but I'm not going to be preoccupied with it.
Is it scary? Yes, of course! However, that's their objective. If I live in constant fear, that's like telling them they've won.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Nope, I am not worried. Its not something thats in my control whatsoever.
However, I do have a pair of socks, sneakers, some extra cash and some quarters stashed away at all times just incase. But that would be helpful in the event of a blackout or a transit strike as well (since Ive worked in the city throughout all 3, Ive learned my lesson!)

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
i work downtown. after 9-11, i honestly didn't think i'd ever be able to come into the city again. the entire time my office was closed i thought about not returning to work. we lost a couple of family friends that day. then the day my boss called and said the office would be open on monday, i freaked out and cried and cried and told DH there isn't anyway i was going to be able to get on the LIRR and then the subway downtown. after my crying bout, i realized i was giving the terrorists what they wanted. am i scared, damned right, ever day but i am not going to stop doing what i do and allow them to win! but i am very vigalent and always am aware of what is going on around me.

Wow, you are an inspiration to me. My DH is too. He is the same way, takes the train everyday, etc. I could never do it.
You inspire me to not be such a chicken.
Seriously.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
How many times since 9/11 have they said this- and nothing has happened yet. They have even raised the terror levels several times- still nothing.
I remember at one point- people were in home depot buying plastic sheating for their houses in case of a chemical attack.
I just can't think about this- or I'd go insane.
Like everyone else said - it's out of my control.
And- if it's going to happen- it most likely will happen when we are least expecting it- not most expecting it- like it did on 9/11.

Not worried. Especially when they claim to know about a threat... I believe if there ever is a next one, it will be out of the clear blue sky with no warning, just like 9-11.

You saw me there? How did you know? LOL
Seriously, I was ONE of those people. No joke. I still have that huge roll of painter's plastic. It has come in handy when I painted or did some housework.
Sigh.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Now with the new reports out, I am even more scared then I was.
I do have a large emergency stash of food, batteries, gas, propane, baby food, water, emerg radio and TV, emerg kit with flares, etc.
I hate the fact that DH has to go into the city everyday. I wish we could move out of here but it is not possible for us.
