I'm actually more paranoid of being in a bad car accident. The odds of that happening are astronomically higher than being in a terrorist attack....
I'm living proof of that!

To some extent I worry fro my dh who works for the LIRR. and for my BIL who in FDNY. However, I cannot make either of them stay home every day all day, so I do the best I can.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I'm a worrier too and for a while I became really anxious - to the point where my stomach turned every time I heard a plane overhead.
But time really helps - the more flights I'm on where nothing happens, the better I am. Also, I've been living in London for the past 3 years and we've had several incidents here - but they've all been very isolated. People here lived through IRA bombings throughout the 70's and 80's (that's why you won't find garbage pails on any train platforms - taht's where they used to hide the bombs!), not to mention WWII, and they have a very stoic attitude towards terrorism that I've really learned from. You can't control it, but you can be alert and help out when you can by reporting suspicious incidents

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I worry. A lot. Sometimes I am able to build myself up and know I can't do anything about it and that whatever may or may not happen is out of my control...but other times, not so much.
I've recently moved to CT, so it's less of an issue than when I worked in Manhattan, but I definitely still think about it...especially because I did lose close people on 9/11, and because some of my closest friends/family are NYPD. When I was commuting to NYC, there were a small handful of times I did not get on the train because of a "suspicious" person. When there was that "funny" smell coming from NJ last year my heart was racing at my desk. I was at the airport recently waiting for my delayed flight and there was a suspicious person (dressed strangely, moving around the gates reading from a religious book, etc.) who I did my best to ignore, but ultimately said something to the airline. They wound up detaining him.
I just wnated to let you know I know how you feel, and know how hard it is not to worry. Hugs to you.

No, I'm not worried about it, and I'm not going to stop enjoying my summer because of it.
I cannot control it, and I refuse to live in fear because of all this. I would rather die suddenly in the midst of enjoying life to the fullest than live out the rest of my days in fear, not doing the things I love because some group of schmucks thinks they can control me with their scare tactics.
I'm not saying that I'm not cautious and careful -- but I'm not going to be preoccupied with it.
Is it scary? Yes, of course! However, that's their objective. If I live in constant fear, that's like telling them they've won.
EXACTLY how i feel. I know so many people who go through life scared-to stick up for themselves, terrorism, making a change, so many things, and i refuse to live that way.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
Just reading this thread is making me anxious. To this day, every time a plane flies overhead and it seems lower than usual, I stop what I'm doing, wait and listen. At the same time my heart feels like it is pounding out of my chest. It's a terrible feeling.

Re: Talk of another terrorist attack, who here is worried?
I am worried because of where I live, where I work and how I get to work...
Seeing tons of cops every morning is not comforting, it really has the adverse effect.
