Talk to me about ditching the bottle

DS is 10 months and I'd like to start weaning him off the bottle at the 1 year mark. He already uses a sippy cup (I keep water in it and he will take an occasion sip from it when he's playing). Any advice on how to make the transition? Of course, I still want him to get all the nutrition from milk but how do I encourage that with the sippy?

Re: Talk to me about ditching the bottle

I just took it away and DS had to deal. Sounds mean but I didn't want to falter on my decision to cut back on bottles. I started with the afternoon bottle and replaced it with a sippy. Next I took away the morning bottle and finally the evening bottle...he was off by 14 months.

This post makes me laugh: Poor Lucas...

Re: Talk to me about ditching the bottle

we went cold turkey at 13 months. He resisted milk the first couple of days and we made sure he had calcium in other ways (cheese, yogurt, etc). Then each day he started to drink more and more from the sippy cup. After 10 days, he was drinking like normal. Chat Icon
