Talk to me about Follitropin shots...
So after having a bad reaction to Clomid, my RE prescribed Follitropin shots once a day to make me O. I will be starting the shots today. I think I will be OK with the whole shot situation, but the only thing on my mind is having to go through all of this to ultimately have my cycle canceled bc of over-stimulation.
For those of you who've had to do this, is there anything that you can share? Any info on your overall experience with it would be very much appreciated!
TIA!

yup! i did both follistim and gonal-f which are both FSH shots. the needles are really small and they dont really hurt. i ice the spot where im going to inject for about 5 minutes and you almost dont even feel it. its really not bad once you get over the idea that you are giving yourself a shot.
as far as hyperstimming - that did happen to me last cycle. what dosage did you start with? i started cd4-10 every other day follistim at 150ius along with femara 2.5mg cd4-8, and by the time i went in for monitoring on cd12 it was too late and i had A LOT of follies - over 10+ that were maturing. my cycle was cancelled and i had to 3 weeks of BCP to get rid of the follies after AF came.
this cycle my dose was started 1/5th of the original dose. i didnt really respond at all. i eventually had to up the dose to 75ius and switch back to follistim (i was doing gonal-f this time around). it took 21 days and 17 injects and 10 doses of femara before i was able to trigger last week. my body for whatever reason did not respond at all to gonal-f so i eventually found that 75ius of follistim did the trick without overdoing it.
just remember its better to go slow and grow the follies than to go to quick and hyperstim!
if you have any other questions you can totally FM me or post here and ill reply!! good luck!!

Re: Talk to me about Follitropin shots...
Thank you SO much... I will probably have lots more questions as this cycle progresses! It's actually Gonal-F that I'm taking! DH gave me my first shot earlier and I honestly didn't feel a thing!
They started me at 37.5ius and told me that this was going to be a long process and that I shouldn't be discouraged. You're right, I would rather take it low and slow, then hyperstim! I am going back on Saturday for some monitoring and they told me that I will probably have to go in everyother day and then daily for monitoring. Did you have to go frequently? My copay is $40 every time so this is going to get VERY !! I'm also doing IUI for the first time this cycle, so hopefully this will all be worth it!!!!

yes i had to go in about twice a week while i was stimming. the first cycle was right around the holidays so i did the meds and didnt go back for a week because my RE had a crazy schedule - and by the time i went in i had already hyperstimmed. so this cycle i had to go in more often to be monitored. but since it was soo slow to get me to make follies this time i only ended up going in about twice a week. we didnt do IUI either - just timed intercourse this cycle.
good luck
