Talk to me about Growth Spurts. Does this sound like one?
So, Jake is thrown off his schedule lately. Typically, he was up an up for 2 down for 2 baby during the day, and just about sleeping through at night (11pm-ish to 7am ish).
The past 4 days his naps are shorter, and sometimes missed all together. He is more alert, and fussier, although not terrible, just more, just different. Nights seem to have stayed the same.
What I notice is that he has become so curious, that the places he used to get those long naps in (Swing and bouncy) are becoming activity centers for him, and almost distracting from his nap. This, coupled with the constant sucking of his hands is really causing the distraction from the old nap routine. He will not nap in the cirb, although he sleeps there nicely at night since we swaddle him.
Does this sudden change in the napping routine sound like a growth spurt? How long do they last, and will the baby typically return to the old routine?
And of course this is all happening as I return to work this week!
ETA: He just turned 12 weeks on Friday (and will be 3 mos this Thurs).

I just asked the ped. about this today. She told me that it's just because DD is trying to "take it all in" and doesn't want to miss any of the action!
I used to get great naps out of her...now I typically get 2-3 30-40 min. naps, unless we're in the car and I'm driving.

He def passes out in the car seat!
What do you do to keep her entertained now that she is up much more? Did Ped say she'll return to longer naps?

It just sounds like he's becoming more aware of his surroundings, which is typical at 3 months.
When DS goes through growth spurts, he eats a lot more frequently. Some babies also tend to sleep a lot more. Growth spurts usually last several days.

Supposedly it's just a phase, and they'll start napping longer again (from her lips to God's ears!!!). I can't wait, it's REALLY hard to get things done nowadays!
It's funny, but I take a lot of what I learned while teaching Kindergarten and apply it to taking care of DD. One thing I learned is that little kids don't like to stay anywhere for too long. So to keep her occupied during the day, I'll put her in her high chair while I eat breakfast, then I'll put her in her floor gym for awhile. Hold her for a little while, hopefully at that point she's ready for a nap. It's all about rotation

This is what we've been doing as well, esp since is so curious. The napping is getting better day by day. Now that I'm working, he is with my mom, and of course, she just has the miracle "mommmy-now-grandma" touch!

Yeah, how does that work??!! My mom can actually get DD to nap in her crib. DH and I tried so hard to get her to nap there, with no luck at all!
It's amazing!!

I think your DD is the female version of my DS! He will not nap in his crib either!

Re: Talk to me about Growth Spurts. Does this sound like one?
Sounds like your DS just wants to see the world. I don’t think it sounds like a growth spurt unless he is waking and wanting to eat more often. I will say that my DS did go through a growth spurt at 12 weeks but as my ped says DS’s whole life has been a growth spurt.
Anyway, I would try swaddling him for a nap and putting him in the crib. He obviously associates the crib/swaddling with sleeping so maybe that will work.
Either way the one thing I have learned time and again since becoming a parent is that they are constantly changing. One month they may take 3 hour naps and then the next 2 they may only take 30 minute naps. As parents we are just along for the ride!
