Talk to me about swim lessons....

When to start? Is 16 months ok?
Safety swim and if so which location?
A different place other then SS?

This is for Chloe. She is a FISH. The kid loves the water, bath, ANY water like nothing I have ever seen and I know she would seriously get my moneys worth out of it and i think in the future it will be good b/c of her ZERO fear of water.

TIA!!!!

Re: Talk to me about swim lessons....

I think 16 months is a great time to start swimming lessons. Liam has been taking lessons at Saf-t-swim since he was a year old. He loves the water. He takes one-on-one lessons and has been with the same instructor since June. He loves her! He has really learned so much. We go to Saf-t-swim in Nesconset which I know is far from you but I am sure there is one closer to you. I think they are great! I am sure you could try to get a time for both girls to be able to go at once. Maybe it will help Sydney to not be as afraid and Chloe will learn more about how to swim. Just an idea. Chat Icon

Maddy has been going to one on one swimming lessons since she's 2 mos. We go to the safety swim in Deer Park and love it. She's had the same instructer since we began, she's 20 mos now and beginning to swim on her own. I definitly recommend them!

DS has been taking swim lessons at Saf-T-Swim since he was 9 months old. We take the mommy & me class, there are 4 other babies in our group. We go to the Oceanside location and once the session is over, I'm rejoining at the Westbury location with some friends. DS absolutely LOVES it!

Absolutely a great time to start.
I went to the Bellmore location but I don't know how far that is from you.

I think Logan was about that age when he started. Though my memory is fuzzy of that time.

The earlier the better, IMO.

I went to our local YMCA.

Re: Talk to me about swim lessons....

Awesome, thanks all.

I'm gonna check out the Saf-T-Swim in Deer Park and Bellmore since were inbetween both.

I want to get Sydney in too cause she is scared of the water, and Noah kinda is too.

Is that horrible of me to only take Chloe right now? I dont know the prices and if I could afford all 3 going at one time. And while it would 100% help Noah and Syd feel safer, my concern in this upcoming Summer and that Chloe literally tries to just run into waves, jump into any pool of water etc with no concern and cant swim...while Syd and Noah are nervous, so hold back and my safety concerns are not that large yet with them.

I'll check out the prices though.

Anyone ever see any discounts or anything?

Does anyone know if Bayshore YMCA offers classes?

We go to Bellmore and DD loves it. I think it is also very important to find a teacher you and your child are comfortable with.

ITA! Jack's first instructor was a flake. We switched and he was much happier.

Bay Shore YMCA does offer classes - they have group, semi-private and private. I believe the next session starts on 2/28.

We just ended DD"s mommy&me classes at Deer Park Safetyswim. They really are great there! Always check out the website before you sign her up, they always have deals going on and they change every month. If you're going to do individual lessons, many of the moms there have reccomended Kristin as an instructor.

We just started at Bellmore and DS loves it! That location was much nicer than the other one I looked at, I think it is only about a year old.

Re: Talk to me about swim lessons....

DS is currently going to safe-t swim in belllmore and loves it. The facility is only a year or so old and is very nice and clean. 16 months is a great age. We started off with group lessons (mommy and me) because the private are expensive and we wanted to make sure he liked it first. We got a great deal. 6 classes for $70.

We just signed up yesterday actually. It was $249 BOGO for a weekend class. Both girls are going. They will be almost 3.5 and almost 1 year.
