Talking in front of your child

While I have no problem with labels, I don't want my son to feel limited by them.
We were told he has ADHD, PDD and a speech disorder.
He is behind his classmates with letters/numbers and is aware of it and gets upset about it.

When I called the pediatrician to discuss options I tried to make it clear that I don't want to have this discussion in front of my son.
How do you handle that?

I see a Dev Ped for this.

She gives me an option to bring him in or not. He's also still young enough to talk in code or she will read what I've written about his behaviors.
