Re: Taste in Sayville

What is it? A restaurant? Bar? I've never heard of it.

Re: Taste in Sayville

I don't think its related to the one in Garden CityChat Icon The people who own Toast in Port Jefferson opened a restaurant in Sayville called Taste. It has lunch, dinner, and soon will have breakfast. They have different fondues on their menu. I am waiting for them to email a copy of the menu because the website is not up and running yet...

Re: Taste in Sayville

we didn't have a good experience.

i guess it is just one of those places that is either overrated or poorly managed... maybe it was because they are still newly opened?

either way, someone told us that their chef who was amazing left because of how badly it was being operated and now the new chef and some staff that they have is all over the place-- and to be honest, when we went, it showed. meaning, i didn't know if what i heard about the chef leaving was true or not but after we ate there it was pretty obvious that it was. Re: Taste in Sayville

I went last Friday with my husband and it was great.

The ambience was very nice - low lighting with comfortable seating. The dining room did get a little crowded around 7:30 - but it was still fine. The bar had a good crowd.

They had a decent wine list - mostly reds and quite a few Italian wines. I ordered a Shiraz that had a nice bite.

I noticed that all of the waitresses were very tall and kind of large boned, which I actually liked. It was kind of comforting.

We started with the baked clams which were fabulous - but there were only four.

I had a salad composed of romaine hearts with gorgonzola and balsamic vinagriette. The dressing was a bit too pungent for my taste and they do that thing where they give you the romaine leaves whole. i know it looks pretty but I really hate cutting my salad with a knife.

For an entree I ordered the braised short ribs with horseradish whipped potatoes and sliced carrots. The short ribs were more than 'fall off the bone' tender - they were BONELESS. And fabulous. The sauce was a LITTLE salty for my taste.. but still wonderful. The potatoes were great and the carrots were cooked exactly right.

Hubby had the marinated strip steak which he LOVED. And he doesn't often love restaurant food. The hand cut french fries were also a big hit with him.

We shared the chocolate fondue for dessert. it was way too much for us - especially after we had just had dinner. But it was great. The chocolate was lovely and it was presented on a lazy susan with a ton of different things to dip - peanut butter cornflake clusters, rice krispie treats, strawberries, bananas, pineapple, cookies, pretzels...

The waitress said they will start doing lunch this week and breakfast will be added within the month. Rob and I will DEFINITELY make a return trip - but next time we plan to go with a group so that we can indulge in the cheese fondue!!
