Tax Grievances
i'm in the process of grieving my taxes through Mark Lewis. What I don't get is why my taxes are so high to begin with.
I just found out that the true taxes (w/o STAR) on a house across the street from us are exactly the same as ours. Their house has the following things that our house does not have:
3 full baths (we have 1.5) CAC Expanded the whole back of the house to make the Master BR / Dining/ Kitchen bigger...which of course adds to their square footage. 2 fireplaces
So, way back when, we both had the 'same house...then they did all the above renovations....yet our taxes are the same...am I missing something????? Or do the things I listed above not effect your taxes????

Re: Tax Grievances
I used Mark Lewis & was very happy. As for why your taxes are the same as your neighbors, I'm not sure but my theory is just like most local gov, the assessors are smokin crack & everything is all screwed up at our expense. My taxes were DOUBLE some of my neighbors! If the market continues to tank I'm going to greive again for 2010. Good Luck!!!

Re: Tax Grievances
Mark Lewis said my taxes are overassessed by 10%...but now seeing this house across the street...I'm thinking I'm WAY overassessed or they are way under assessed. Either way it gets me angry.

Re: Tax Grievances
I greived my taxes may 2007 - i have a small claims court date for this july. My grievance was denied during the first round - no idea why, I am in the same boat as the OP. all the houses in my area are the same -we pay more taxes than everyone on the block who has larger houses than we do - seriously we pay about 1,500 more. .

I got a postcard from Mark Lewis sometime over the summer saying we had a case, I didn't get confirmation we won or the amount until december.

Re: Tax Grievances
I hired Mark Lewis. I am 99% sure that my town the deadline was May, so I heard that they will contact me sometime in July to let me know what the outcome was.
We bought our home in Oct.
