Tax rate clothing suffolk county
I bought socks for my son in September and went into to exchange them for a different size (same price). Sears said I owed 28 cents for taxes. Does anyone know why I would owe for taxes when I paid them (woman at store had no idea why I had to pay extra)?

Re: Tax rate clothing suffolk county
as of October 1st, they put back the tax for clothing under $100. I think this is through the holiday season and then it comes back off again
from an online source: Diapers had been tax-free, but that exemption expires come October 1. Things change again next April 1 when the exemption kicks back in on clothing and footwear sold for $55 or less.

Yep, unfortunately we now have to pay the full sales tax on clothing. But you shouldn't have to pay the difference if you bought the socks before October 1st.
