Chat Icon I am so upset because I can not find a job anywhere, not even in the City.....I am certified English 7-12. How long did it take you to find a job? How long did you have to sub??? I am thinking of going back to school to be a Nurse because the job market is better and that was always an option that I considered before becomming a teacher. I am 27 years old, I only graduated in May because I couldn't decide on a Major, but I feel like a loser because I have a MA in teaching and I am still doing the same type of work that I did to put myself through school.

Any advice would be great.

Re: teachers

Don't give up hope!! It took me a year to find a job in teaching. Send your resumes to all the SD's because you never know who is going to cancel on them before sept. This is how I got my job but no one cancelled they opened a position and my resume came in before they posted about the job.

I am certified 7-12 in Math and can't find a job either!!!

I have 1 year experience only because my DH and I moved to florida for a year so I can teach. Looks like I won't have a job for September. I am regretting going into teaching.

Re: teachers

Keep in mind that with city schools, they do a lot of their hiring at the end of August, right before school starts. I didn't start getting interviews until August, and I got my job literally days before school started. So hang in there, something might come up. Good luck!

Re: teachers

I always post this but... I got my job from walking resumes into schools in august. I got so many interviews that way. I would give my resume to anyone who would take it...sectrateries, principals, custodians if no one else was there.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
So much happens in August.

Don't give up on the city- as someone else said, they will have more openings as August nears because they always lose teachers to the suburbs towards the end of the summer. Have you tried calling the Regional offices?

Are you on the open market system for NYC? Do you have a file number? Feel free to FM me if you have any questions- we don't have any openings in my school and I don't know if you want the Bronx anyway but I can let you know if I hear of anything.

Re: teachers

check the week in review section of the NY times - they had a number of listings for schools.

Week in review section comes on the weekends.

Re: teachers

Thanks girls.....I am going to do some serious leg work this week and let them know I want / deserve a position!!!

I have had two people assure me I will have a job in September, these aren't people in any position to give me a job just co-workers, but hey if they can be that positive and say they have a "good feeling" about me, why can't I!!!

Re: teachers

:) Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, CT is too far from Long Island and I am not moving any time soon :(

I will, however, get right on sending my stuff to Cutchouge!!

THANKS

Did you check out the NY Times?? I searched this morning in their classifieds, and Education - Tri-State area had 1,000+ matches. Narrow it down by your specialty and see what happens.

Re: teachers

I did apply to quite a few private schools as well, but nothing. :( Copiague recently placed an ad for a leave replacement and I applied but that was three days ago and I haven't heard a word. I thought they'd call quickly because it is so close to school.

Re: teachers

dont give up this job is well worth the wait!! My friend just got a job last week and beautyq115 just posted saying she got one THIS week!!
I know my school always seems to have a bunch of women who come in in sept saying they are pregnant and going on maternity leave - send the resumes out to principals and superintendents or asst supes. Best of Luck and try not to lose hope!!

Re: teachers

I would NEVER give up on teaching, I just can't wait to have my own class and the same students on a daily basis. Subbing doesn't feel like teaching at all to me. I dunno, I just feel like a babysitter when I sub.

I just want a class so badly. I told hubby to be that if I have no job come next September we are making me my own class via our own children, lolChat Icon
