Teachers or School Personnel...Have you ever reported educational neglect??
I am in the process of it for a student....and the mother found out it was me! She confronted me on the phone today and I am meeting with her next week.

Someone in your building told her WOW so out of line- those things are supposed to be strictly confidential. I am sorry that happened to you.
In our district we have to report all suspisions of abuse to the PPD. We have to fill out a form on what we have seen or suspect. The PPD staff do an investigation that must be completed by the end of the school day (to determine whether it is safe for the child to go home for the day or not) and then if necessary they will make the CPS report.
I am still floored that someone in your building would report that you made a report of a suspision. I am just shocked at how unprofessional that is.
I am so sorry.

Educational neglect can be many things- but in my district the normal cases we see is when the parents are not having their children attend school regularly.

It can involve a lot of things, attendance, behavior, coming unprepared to school or coming late a lot. We reported a parent once because though the child came to school, he was out of control, violent at times, did what he could to disrupt lessons. The mother stopped coming to the school, and refused to let the school evaluate him even though there were clear problems.
If my school really enforced policy on neglect, probably a third of the parents of kids in my school would be charged.
It's SUPPOSED to be confidential when you report that.

Oh I am not! I am a little afraid......she sounds like a wack job!
I am reporting based on attendance, lateness, being in danger of being left back...but apparentely that is my fault since I don't give enough HW YEAH OK!

Re: Teachers or School Personnel...Have you ever reported educational neglect??
If you made a formal CPS call to the central registry 800#, then wrote up a written report, which is also required, there is a narrative portion of the report. All parents are entitled to read what is written in the narrative.
For example, being the school social worker, if I write, "child shared with social worker..." the family will know that I called.
No matter what, they usually find out anyway. Either way, you always state that all school personnel are mandated state reporters and our license is on the line.
Parents yell at me all the time, I am used to it.

I have not....that is the next step after the home visit...if she does not show up for this meeting I am going to see about calling CPS

I have never been confronted, but I thought this immediately when reading your story:

Your license is way more important than her feelings. If she has nothing to hide, she has nothing to worry about. Maybe this will wake her up!
