Re: Teachers that pump
I'm a counselor with my own office but I seriously don't know how I will find time to pump. I go back to work in August.
My suggestion if you don't have a private spot is to ask one of your counselors. If any teacher asked me, I would be happy to offer up my office for her to pump.

Re: Teachers that pump
Thanks for the suggestion....however, at my current school....a small catholic school the only office there is is our principals and the nurse, but she always has kids in there. Obviously I could try in my classroom, but there's always kids wandering the halls.
I also got scared after reading Tracy's post of the male classroom key teacher...
Just curious how you ladies do it and when.

Re: Teachers that pump
I locked my classroom door and put a sign up on the door that says "PLEASE DON'T DISTURB". I usually give up my prep or lunch to pump. It stinks being that we have a ton of work to do during that time but that's when I put my family first. If I have to take some extra work home than I do.

Re: Teachers that pump
I use a supply closet (which is more like an office). The custodian unlocked the door and walked in on me once too. He was very apologetic but I wasn't embarrassed. I breastfeed in public (discretely) so I didn't care too much. I have since made a "Do Not Disturb" sign to save others from the embarrassment of walking in.
I pump in the morning before classes start and then during my lunch. It only takes me 10-15 minutes to get 6-8 ounces. My principal is totally supportive so she would accommodate any schedule I would need to make it work.

Seriously, though, if you can get your door locked then you should be ok, as long as other people don't have keys to your room. My other concern was my students trying to get into the room- I was afraid that they'd get someone with a key to open the room for them. But I have to say, the kids have been great. I told them the day I got back that when they went to lunch they needed to take all their stuff because they absolutely would not be allowed back in. (I didn't say why).
The only time of day I can pump is lunch. I don't put a sign on the door (I didn't want to invite speculation) but I wonder if that would have helped me avoid yesterday's situation.
If you work with someone you're friendly with, maybe she can help out in some way- maybe sit outside your door or something? Honestly, having been through this experience, if a nursing co-worker ever needed support, space, whatever, I would be happy to help her. We have to stick together!

Re: Teachers that pump
I've been pumping for 3 mos now and I hand a do not disturb sign in the window. I pump 2 times once before the kids come in and once either on a prep or on my lunch. I have it done to a science and it takes me about 8-10 minutes to get anywhere from 8-12 ozs.
