Teachers with guns?
ARTICLE
A lawmaker in Wisconsin is proposing legislation that would allow teachers to carry concealed weapons.
I think it's nuts. He references Israel and Thailand, but the conflicts in those countries is far more serious than here.
The recent shootings have made me very nervous. We have school safety, but they're not armed, and I really have concerns about them. In my former school, a parent walked in with a machete and just walked right past the safety officers. But I still wouldn't want to carry a gun, and I would not trust some of my co-workers with guns.

Re: Teachers with guns?
I am a teacher. I work in a lousy neighborhood and I would never ever ever carry a gun. To use Israeli teacher as examples is ludicrous and hardly a comparison. Israel has been under attack since the dawn of time and more recently since its inception as a state. Each citizen has had 2-3 years of army training. They are all soldiers. If I thought I would need military training to educate, I would have gone the ROTC route in college.
ETA: I think before teachers are to be armed, they should placed armed and trained police and perhaps more metal detectors.

It is sad, but this world is not what it used to be. Kids know a lot more than they used to. Parents will have to step up to the plate and talk to their kids to explain why things are the way they are. It is no longer the age of innocence Personally, I would rather know my child is protected. I just dont think I want his or her kindergarten teacher to be packing.

Definitely not. But I would not have a problem with police in my building, even though my school is safe. I'd prefer police to metal detectors. The events in PA and CO are reminders that outsiders can be as dangerous as troubled kids.
ETA: We had metal detectors at my old school. It was a joke. Kids got stuff past them all the time. And they didn't scan the sixth graders, only the seventh and eighth. So of course the older kids figured that they could give their stuff to the sixth graders to get into the building.
