Teaching interview while pregnant.. worth it? Updated 4/13
I was offered an interview at a very good middle school on Long Island. I scheduled the interview, but now I am having second thoughts about whether or not it is worth it. I feel like once they see I am pregnant, they will find a reason not to hire mt. I also don't have many sick days, and I feel like I'm just wasting it for no reason... Is it wrong to be thinking that it is a waste of time?
4/13 update: I interviewed at the middle and HS yesterday afternoon. I wore a chunky sweater to hide my bump. Just got called from the middle school for a demo lesson! I know I was one of 8 for the interviews yesterday, but I was wondering if anyone knew how many would probably be considered at this round? I will tell them that I am pregnant after my demo lesson is complete

I would go for the interview. They can't not hire you just because your pregnant

Agreed. Plus you're due in the middle of the summer where it wouldn't affect your work schedule nearly as much.

I wouldn't interview if it meant you weren't going to be able to start the school year in September. But if it wasn't going to affect that then I absolutely would.

Teaching interview while pregnant.. worth it?
If i stay where I am, I was going to go back at the end of Sept. If I got this job, I would start on the first day of school without a doubt. I guess I will go and see what happens

To me, for a great opportunity, that is worth it. I only took 8 weeks off(unpaid too!) when I had DD because I had just started a new job. It sucked, but in the long run, it meant NOTHING. The opportunity is more important than a few weeks more leave

I would say go for it, it couldn't hurt. The worst they can do is not offer you the job- and they can't not offer it to you just because you're pregnant.

Go, and tell them that. Say, "Look, I'm obviously pregnant, but due in July, and I'm looking to begin a new job at the beginning of the school year."

Go. If they really like you they will talk to you about your after baby plans and worst case they could keep you in mind for future openings.

I say go. If you don't go there is a 100% chance you will not get the job. If you go there is a chance you will. Just be upfront about your start date and tell they you are eager to begin teaching on the first day of school.

Go for it. It's good to know the LI school interviews are like regardless of what happens.

Wonderful news! I hope to be subbing in the fall and am due in June. A friend was telling me that in her school they hired someone who was out on maternity leave for the first two months that she worked there. She was hired over another teacher that we know in the area who is totally qualified so apparently they didn't blink an eye when she showed up pregnant for the interview. This was in Queens. Good luck!!!
