Teaching work ethic or flat out child labor?
In my neighborhood, when it snows, people come door to door asking if you want them to shovel the walk. This morning, 3 little kids were standing on my doorstep, while the father sat in the car. They were 3 boys - approximately 10, 7, & 6. They do not live in the immediate area. I didn't need them, but my neighbor did, and the boys were the ones doing all of the work! The father never got out of the car.
I think I remember shoveling my neighbors house when I was younger, but I was a pre teen or teen I think, but it was always my idea, and I would do it for $5 or something like that.
It just sat a little weird with me. While I appreciate children being taught a work ethic, I also feel bad that they were doing all of the work (and it was obvious that they KNEW it was work).
Thoughts?

A little young to me, especially the 6 & 7 year old. But if the older boy wanted to do it, of course the younger ones would want to follow.
I think it is more odd that the dad drove them around and sat in the car and watched Usually the kids that come to my door live on the block or block next to us and walk.

It could've been the kids idea to go out and make some money and he's just an cautious dad.
Next time, ask the kids if it was their idea to shovel and what they will do with their money.
