Teeball
Does anyone's DC play? DS will be 5 by the time it starts in the spring but sign-ups are now. I like soccer because it's constant exercise. I'm concerned that teeball is a lot of standing around.

Re: Teeball
OMG it was awful.
I so wanted to pull DS but DH signed up to be a coach so we were stuck.
What made it worse was DS has issues with attention and being still to begin with. This lead to a ton of melt-downs.
Soccer is 1000x better except for this jerk of a father who goes and gets everyone riled up because he bullies the kids.

I don't have to worry about this for a while (DS is due in January lol) but I do remember going to teeball games for my best friend's kids... They were torture! The kids stand around, pick their noses, stare at the sky/playground/fence/each other, and I don't really don't think this helps them build a foundation for baseball later on. But that's just me lol.

Re: Teeball
Going through the same thing now. DS just finished Fall soccer and LOVED it. He was on a team with his close friends. Now they are doing baseball in the Spring together bc one dad will be the coach. I just hear it's a lot of waiting around. It's almost 2 hours! He also loves soccer and said he wants to do both. He's not that athletic, but has so much fun so not sure what to do. ugh!

Re: Teeball
My son started last year at 4 - it is a lot of standing around, but he loved it. They only play 3 innings so it's bearable. I also like baseball though so I could be biased.
I think it's better than soccer for teaching them how to play the game, and teamwork, hand eye coordination etc. - I've found soccer to be just running (which IS good exercise) but I can get them to do that anywhere, any time - in soccer at that age there was no teaching them the rules of the game or anything -

T-Ball is soo cute! Yes it is a lot of standing around and that is hard for the kids but the look on their faces when the make a hit or catch a ball is priceless.
It is an important foundation for little league - Teamwork, listening to coaches, beginning fundamentals of the game, etc.
Just wait until your child gets to be 8 or 9 and starts going to tournaments. 2 or 3 games in one day is a killer!

DS did it last year when he was 4 and will do little league this year @ 5. He loved it. It is a lot of waiting, and when they were in the field, positions were just thrown to the wind and they all chased after the ball, but DS still loved it and can't wait till spring.

Re: Teeball
My DS, who is turning 6 next month, has played t-ball for the past 2 years (when 4 and 5), and he will play again.
It's definitely not as non-stop action as soccer (DS plays soccer, too), but it tends to be more organized, bad I could actually see a lot of progress in the kids as the season goes on. I like soccer, and I am happy DS plays it, but at this age soccer tends to be a lot of running up and down the field, chasing the ball. It can be chaotic.
There is a lot of down time during the t-ball games, but there's plenty of exercise... DS's teams have one practice a week (in addition to games) where they practice running the bases, fielding balls, etc. and during games they take turns in various positions so everyone gets to be at first, etc.
The uniforms are so cute for t-ball, and there is usually a little league parade. The weather is nice in the spring. I think it's fun!
At this age, with any sport, you are really just introducing them to basic concepts, the idea of teamwork, etc., rather than honing advanced skills.
I also think it's nice to introduce kids to a variety of sports at a young age, so when they are older, they will know what they like and what they have an aptitude for. My son likes to play sports, so he's done soccer, t-ball, ice hockey skating lessons, golf lessons, aNd he's currently in a basketball clinic and may try a lacrosse clinic this winter. Not all at once, of course! I try to limit him to two activities at a time. But otherwise I let him try things and i am glad he wants to. I would try the t-ball and see how your son likes it. If it's not for him, then you won't do it again (or maybe you will hold off til he it's older).

Re: Teeball
DS played t-ball in the spring & summer last year - he was 4. He loved it. I loved it. The spring was a hot mess - the kids were all diving for the ball. Playing in the dirt when they were in the outfield. The summer was MUCH better! I'm not sure if it's because the kids were older, more experienced or the coaches were leaps & bounds better!
DS also played soccer this fall & will again in the spring. He REALLY loved soccer because of the constant movement. By the end of the season he was working well with his teammates & passing. I was very impressed!
