Teen Mom/16 and pregnant
Do you think it's moved from being an education/warning message to a hindrance?
It started out as an expose on what it is like to be a teen mom, how hard it is and now it seems like it is something that kids aspire to?
Introducing the new cast-you probably have girls that now aspire to get pregnant so they can be on the show.
I liked it in the beginning but now it worries me.

I agree, I heard some reports on the news that girls are getting pregnant on purpose because of this...

I'm 28, in a steady relationship heading to marriage, have a good job, but after watching these girls I get scared!

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately I think the idea that the show would serve as a "cautionary tale" for teens has backfired. I do think that it shows the hardships of being a teen mother...HOWEVER the show has become a HUGE hit and I think teens are not exactly "getting" the message. I think they see it as "I can get pregnant and be on a hit show....AND get paid a sizeable amount of $ for being on that show...AND I'll be on magazine covers...AND I'll be FAMOUS". Very disturbing

Re: Teen Mom
I just looked it up after I read this... I can't believe they are putting that trashy piece of trash Janelle on this show. She was a terrible terrible mother, not that the rest of them are wonderful but this girl was horrible. She screamed at her mother all the time, made her mother watch the baby, etc. And the mother was just an enabler. How is your daughter suppose to be learning responsibilities when you just hand her everything and not make her work for it or just let her go out? And MTV is just enabling this girl even more! Act like a horrible mother and be a trashy person and get rewarded with a tv show!? Gross

Re: Teen Mom/16 and pregnant
I spoke to my sister about the show & my 14 year old niece chimed in that she couldn't imagine anyone thinking it was a good idea to be a teen mom after seeing that show. (whew!)
For those that have watched from the beginning - I can't seem to catch a follow-up episode of any of the ones I've seen. Like the one that's boyfriend was a big basketball star & gave up his college scholarship, his grandmother wanted a paternity test...are they doing folllow-ups this season or is it a new mom each week?

I think its just a new mom every week and I'm sure the follow up show with Dr. Drew. Then of course there will be teen mom after this....

Re: Teen Mom/16 and pregnant
I always thought from the first moment that for many kids, this would be a potentially bad influence. If you put someone on TV, many times kids assume that person is something to look up to. I think the whole thing is a bad idea.

Re: Teen Mom/16 and pregnant
i posted on the other thread about amber...
i think the show is bad news...
i think it is making teen pregnancy more acceptable - i'm not sure how to word it properly but when i was in HS there was 1 pregnant girl and it was a big deal - it seems like now that's not really the case anymore, like it's becoming more normal....
just look at mtv as a network in general - this isn't discovery or tlc doing a documentary about teen pregnancy - it's freaking mtv...half the stuff they put on is garbage IMO - this is just another one of those garbage shows meant to get ratings and meant to gran teens attention...bad bad bad news IMO...

Re: Teen Mom/16 and pregnant
I watch the show and definitely see it as a cautionary tale... but I have to wonder if young girls in general see it through the same filter as I do.
One time I tried to watch an episode online on mtv.com, and on the side of the screen they had a live chat feature. There were a bunch of very young girls (13-16?) - or maybe people pretending to be young girls, which is even worse - excitedly discussing their pregnancies, or saying how they can't wait to get pregnant soon. And not discussing things like "I'm so scared," or "Life is going to be hard," either - it was all fun and games. "What are you naming yours?" "I so can't wait to hold my adorable baby!" "Did ur mom freak when u told her LOL!"
I had to stop watching because I was getting upset. If MTV is aware that the show is having that type of effect on even a few teenagers - and I don't see how they can NOT be aware, since it's on their website - IMO they should rethink their programming.

Not me either, had a whole debate on it on the TTC board, sends a horrible message . Yes teens are that dumb to think it's "cool" to have a baby in HS and this show is promoting it. Discraceful MTV.
