Tell me about Boston.
So my Wife and I are planning our first wedding anniversary trip. Unfortunately I can only get one day off of work so it has to be something on the east coast. We are still thinking about the Poconos but Boston does seem like something that would be fun. I am really not sure what there is to do there or exactly where to stay. Is it worth it to stay inside of Boston or should we stay outside? We are going to be driving up so we will have a car. We did see some good deals to South Beach but I think we will save that for a later trip. So please educate me. Thanks.

Re: Tell me about Boston.
DH and I just went to Boston two weeks ago. We went up Monday and stayed over. I wish we would have stayed Tuesday night, too. There is just so much to do there. If you want to get an overview of Boston, then take either the trolly tour or the duck tour. We couldn't get a reservation for the duck tour, which is supposed to be great because it does both land and sea. In the Boston commons there is a swan ride, which was cute. There is a person straddling a fake swan peddling through the pond. Fanuiel Hall and Quincy Market is a must see. I wish we could have gotten on the USS Constitution, but it is closed on Mondays. For your anniversary you can do a dinner cruise through Boston Harbor. I would have liked to have done that. I suggest staying in the heart of Boston as everything is within walking distance.
Boston is a great city!!!

Re: Tell me about Boston.
I live in Boston - it is a fun city - i would recomend staying downtown either around theprudential center or around fenuil hall - you can walk to most things
if there is not a game at fenway - they give tours- or go to a game most hotels have a few scalped tickets to sell usally about double face value but that is usually better then the scalpers around the stadium
fenuil hall has some cute shops and street performers - and the irish bar row is over there across from the holcost memeriol
there are duck tours and trolly tours to see the city faster.
the freedom trail takes you through becaon hill and the north end and shows important landmarks around the city - can walk or taek a trolley tour
the north end is the italian area with great restaurants, cafes and bakeries.
charles street in beacon hill has great little boutiques and if you walk up onto thwe hill there are beautiful brownstones and gas lite streets
newbury street is inthe backbay with higher end shopping - and nice restaurants with great outdoor seating - stephanie's is the most famous for outdoor lunch but there are plenty of others
boyleston street is one street over and runs parallel to newbury has a bunch of good bars
commonwelth avenue has grass park running the length and is pretty towalk down - commonwealth is on the other side of newbury
the public garden is very pretty to walk around
oh on friday nights they play old movies behind the harbor hotel with a screen over the water in the dock area - nice restaurant for outdoor eating
you can also take a boat fromt he harbor to different islands or to salem
there also great museums
hotels i would recomend lenox, millenium hilton intercontinental boston harbor hotel

Re: Tell me about Boston.
if you want to go a duck tour you can book 7 days in advance online or go ealry in the moning around 9 and they sell the rest of the boats- they do not sell all the boats on the internet- they want visitors to be able to book them and not have to plan far in advance
they leave from the prudential center and the museum of science

Re: Tell me about Boston.
Wow great responses so soon. I am printing out these. Thank you so much for all the information. Do they have tours of the Sam Adams brewery? I thought I heard someone say that they did that once. I think we have a winner in Boston.

Re: Tell me about Boston.
If it's nice weather and you feel like walking, take the Freedom Path. DH and I walked that when we went to Boston last year and enjoyed every part of it cause we got to see all the major land marks of Boston along the way.

the sam adams is not real a full fledged brewery anymore - just a test center - they do have tours on friday and saturdays - check the website for details
the real local brewery is harpoon -
but some other good place to grab beer is boston beerworks by Fenway and the bank north Garden - also cambringe brewing company restaurant in kenmore square cambridge
oh i would not recomend a cruise for dinner- there are much better places to eat for the price - unless you really want the ambiance - great restaurants are azure, sel de la terre, number nine, all different price ranges opentable.com is an easy place to get reservations and check availability

Re: Tell me about Boston.
We were just there this weekend for a wedding! Great city and lots to do. We took a trolley tour (duck tour was sold out). You can hop on and off the trolley all day up until 5pm...great way to see landmarks in a short amount of time. We stayed at the Hilton Downtown....right in the middle of great shopping, restaurants, etc. Had a really nice dinner in Beacon Hill. You'll have a great time!

Re: Tell me about Boston.
We just got back from Boston. I am going to post a review later, but to help you out, we stayed outside the city at the Hampton Inn in Woburn. It was about 15-20 minutes from the city. I didn't mind being out of the city, since we basically just slept there, we were in the city all day.
The Freedom Trail is fun, we spent an evening at Quincy Market. They have a cute laser light show at 9:45pm every night and free entertainment in between Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall at the start of every hour.
We also went Whale Watching! It was amazing, I could not believe how close the whales get to the boat. We went on the New England Aquarium's cruise. Highly recommended!
