Tell me about Oceanside?
I know threads about specific towns can cause drama but I don't really know where else to ask! Any info about Oceanside would be helpful - specific neighborhoods people like, school district info, neighborhood feel of it...etc. etc. It seems to be the area closest to my ILs and DH's work that is most within our budget for what we want (a non fixer-upper). When we looked for a house our first time around (about a year and a half ago) we looked mainly in Hewlett, Lynbrook, and E. Rockaway/Lynbrook schools. But I don't think our budget matches what we want in those areas right now. I think for our first home Oceanside may be a better fit. We probably won't start really looking for another 8 months to a year but I like to do a lot of research and keep my eye on the market for a while before jumping in. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
Oceanside is a lovely area, and the school district has a good reputation. However, parts of it were really hurt by Sandy. I drove through the area just south of the railroad (over by the Lawson Pub) about six weeks ago, and I saw quite a number of homes still unoccupied with signs of damage. If this is a concern to you, I'd look closer to the RVC border...or even RVC w/ Oceanside schools (RVC w/ RVC schools are generally more expensive).

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
I grew up in Oceanside (and we still live here). It's great for being close to the beach, RVC, taxes are affordable, schools are good..... however we are looking to move in the next 3 years because its just so far removed from any parkways. I work in Bethpage and half of my commute is getting through Freeport. If you don't have a commute (or just commue with LIRR) I would say go for it.

Tell me about Oceanside?
Hi there, we live nearby in Valley Stream and dont' travel to Oceanside except for weekend errands. But if you like Hewlett but found the home prices to be a little too high, perhaps you can look into our neighborhood. We are by the Gibson train station and zoned for Hewlett Woodmere schools. Home prices are reasonable and taxes are about the same if not cheaper than other areas you've mentioned. Good luck!

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
We bought in oceanside and love it Our kids aren't old enough yet for school but the district has a good reputation. I love the proximity to stores (bed bath and beyond, kohls, marshalls, michaels, tjmaxx, gap, etc...), rvc, beach and train. The neighborhood is nice. The negatives are that a lot of the area was hurt by Sandy, but not all parts. We were untouched. Also I do wish there were pkwys closer. I travel into queens for work and it takes me a while to get to any pkwy. My commute is 50-60mins (coming home i make better time but i get out at 3). It takes me the same commuting tine from oceanside as it did when I lived in massapequa park.

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
I don't live there obv but know the area well. In the summer/fall Oceanside is great. In the summer/spring it's a freakin' nightmare to get in and out of that town since the main rd in and out is Long Beach Road.
I know people who grew up in Oceanside and either love it or hate it.

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
I grew up there, quiet town, good schools, close to the beach but a bit far from the parkway. There is one middle school and one high school but there are many different elementary schools for the different areas of Oceanside. I would also look into what area you are interested in, no bad areas, but there are differences between them. FM me if you want more info.

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
My Mom moved there 18 years ago and we bought our home there about a year ago. It is a wonderful area. There are a few different little neighborhoods - all of them nice. However, my Mom was hit very hard by Sandy. We are a mile directly north of her and were untouched. The schools have a great reputation. FM if you want more information.

Re: Tell me about Oceanside?
I grew up in Oceanside and bought a house in Oceanside/Baldwin 5 years ago.
We purchased a home by Silver Lake. I live in Baldwin but Oceanside schools.
We were untouched by Hurricane Sandy. My parents on the other hand live by Lawson Blvd and loss the bottom portion of the house.
OCeanside is a great town to live in but yes it is a little out of the way to get to parkways.
My area I love and wouldn't change it for anything
Good luck - FM me with any questions
