Tell me about Valley Stream

I have been receiving mixed reviews on the area. We are only looking at District 13 homes. So what is the scoop? We were focusing on Franklin Square but go south 4 miles and the houses in V.S. are so much bigger. Feedback from you guys would be very helpful!!

I grew up in Valley Stream, only moved away a couple years ago. I personally would go with Franklin Square for a purchase. Lynbrook is very nice.

Although I think District 13 is still nice, I was in District 30.

I taught in Valley Stream for two years. It's become a very diverse area over the past 10 years or so.

If I had kids, I probably wouldn't want to send them to the High School...in 13 OR 30. The area in District 13 is really quaint and cute, but they have their fair share of problems, unfortunately.

I would stick with FS or Lynbrook personally.

My DH was born & raised there, he lived in the south area. He is the youngest of five. They all went to catholic school until his older sister died in a car accident, then he & his brother went to the public school. This was over 20 years ago. The homes seem to be holding their value pretty well. My inlaws sold their 3 story house in 1994 for $158,000, it sold again in 2005 for $499,000.
My DH said he wouldn't want to live there again because it has changed too much, I'm not really sure what he means since I've never lived there.
My stepdaughter lives mostly in Lynbrook w/her mom & sd#20 is good. The elementary school was terrific. The homes prices seem to have dropped a good bit in Lynbrook over the last year.

I have to also agree with what everyone has said above. I grew up in lynbrook but went to Valley Stream schools. The area is not the same as it used to be.

We lived in the Yorkshires of lynbrook and the school district was 24. The area I grew up in was really nice and still is. If you want to be in this district then look into lynbrook with Dist 24 schools.

If not, I would look into Lynbrook Dist 20, F Square, RVC or Oceanside.

I was born and raised there also. I was closer to the Melverne area, but still district #13. The area has changed BIG TIME!!! I loved growing up there and it is a shame. I have friends that still live in the area and they said it's not the same as well.

I live in Valley Stream (the Gibson section), but we have Hewlett-Woodmere schools. I am very happy with my neighborhood and our schools.

When we were looking, we found some great houses in VS with SD 13 or 30, but decided not to go with them based on their reputation.

I am living in the district 13 area with my parents. I personally did not go to the public schools, but my brothers and sisters did. Most of them did okay.

My area is nice. I am in the Westwood section. I would not buy west of Central Ave. If i didn't work on the border of Nassau and Suffolk, we would consider buying in the area. The commute to the city is 30 minutes.

It seems the consensus is to steer clear of VS. To bad..we found a great home...but we will move on and keep looking!!

I am in Franklin Square in the VS school district 13 area. It is a very desirable area of FS. And the Elementary school is excellent! FM me about VS. I'll also tell you about the area where I live. Good luck.

We are in Lynbrook (SD #20) and are very very happy here. We are zoned for West End elementary (there are 3 elem schools).

DS is only 2 1/2 but I feel confident that we will stay in this house for a while and he will get the full benefit of the school district and the darn prop taxes that we pay

I grew up in VS and it used to be really nice and the schools were great, but times have changed. Lynbrook, RVC, Oceanside are really great towns to live in. GL in your search.
