Now that I have your attention, what do you Jewish girls do for Chanukah with your kiddles/babies...do they get a present every night, do you do one big present...do you have latkes..etc etc.

Also, if you don't mind me asking. When is Chanukah??

eta...Gimme a J Gimme an E Gimme a W...What does that spell...JEW JEW JEW. that was my original subject line, then I realised it might be seen as offensive so I changed it to something boring.

Good question... I don't know, Sydney will be 9 months and won't really know the difference but I think we plan to light the candles and give her a few gifts, she will just eat the wrapping paper anyway.
I do not make latkes b/c I am one of the few jews that don't like them... I can pick some up from the deli for my hubby.

Re: Tell me about your Chaunkahs Jewish girls!

We are giving one big gift to Jacob and 7 smaller ones... Of course he will be getting the same from all three grandparents so we will have plenty of toys to be playing with.

My parents will probably invite us over for a Hannukah dinner which will include latkes.

We will light the Menorah every night at home.

We also have a hannukah party playdate at my girlfriends house. We are having a grab bag for the kids--We spent $10 for the gift..

This is more than enough.. To me Hannukah isn't that big of a deal..

Re: Tell me about your Chaunkahs Jewish girls!

I'm doing exactly what my parents did with me... presents every night of the week for chanukah, light the candles and say the little prayer that I know, and one day during the week I'll invite over friends and family for a "chanukah" dinner. Now, I'd love to continue the tradition of the most yummilicious brisket on the face of the planet, but alas, my vegetarian ways will get in the way, so instead, I'll be making veggie lasagne with split pea soup, sponge cake for dessert, and my grandmother's famous latke recipe... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... latkes!! We also will be lighting the candles every night but being that Sydney will only be 11 months old I did not buy her 8 gifts. Her big gift I actually already gave her since I wanted her to get as much use out of it as possible. She will be getting two other gifts from us and a bunch from family.

Dh is jewish,I am catholic, I am hosting Hanukkah this yearChat Icon

I love Hanukkah, I am making latkes, matzoh ball soup, stuffed cornish hens. YUmmy! Can't wait!

When were on LI, DH used to get presents every night, but since we moved to CT, we get them all at once and only celebrate with family for one night.

We are celebrating on the 16th with DH's family, but we usually light candles every night, or at least 6 of the nights.

I do believe it does start Friday night the 15th, which would be the 1st night of Hanukkah, the first "day" of hanukkah is the 16th.

In my family we got 7 small presents and 1 big one. I think I will do the same with Jordana (although this year I don't think she realizes what is going on). We always had latkes- and I always make them, even if its just DH and me. We also have soofganiyot (basically Jelly donuts). Its an Israeli tradition and since my DH and my parents are Israeli, something I will pass down. We lit the candles and sang songs. Some years my mom even decorated the house (can you tell she was a Hebrew school teacher?)

The first night is on Dec. 15. Coincidentally, we have a big restaurant opening party that night and my mom and sister will be in Aruba- so it may just be lighting the candles, saying the prayers and pushing off the "big" celebration until the whole family can get together.

We have my parents and my brother over for Hanukkah dinner usually the first or second night. We have latkes to start because growing up that was our favorite Hanukkah staple that we looked forward to as far as food.We have music playing and singing and playing spin the dreidle and my husband doing a lot of videotaping. Last year we bought my daughter a mickey/minnie mouse menorah that was really cute and Im hoping she can now enjoy (to a small extent)since she loves Mickey's playhouse. We will light the menorah together every night and we got her a ton of gifts between my parents, my brother and my husband and I that we are going to try and spread out over the week.

Hope everyone has a nice holiday whether you are celebrating Chanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or just enjoying the holiday season.

Re: Tell me about your Chaunkahs Jewish girls!

They are having a hanukkah party at Jillians school on the 16th and then that night we are going to head to LI. My MIL is having a HUGE family party.. with Dh cousins, My SIL brother and his family. , My parents.

I give Jillian 8 small gifts, as do my parents( i actually buy it for them) and my inlaws give her one big gift and a gift for every night.. so we are loaded. I actually just cleaned out a whole bunch of toys to make room.

We light the candles each night and i have a wall hanging one for her so that she can do it herself.

Re: Tell me about your Chaunkahs Jewish girls!

We have 2 kida . Sammy is 4 1/2 so he knows its present time. I will make Latke and we will like the Menorah. We are going to Florida on the 22nd so we will do Chanukag with my family there. As for presents, Sammy will get one for each night. Sara will only be 10 months so I will get her one or 2 gifts . Normally I have friends over but not this year.
