tell me I am crazy
some of you might have read my post about a dog I found the other day.
Well...we are considering adopting him....but part of me is nagging saying I am crazy to do so 2 months before the baby is here.
I am crazy - right - I shouldn't do it?!
(eta: the dog is SWEET - trained, loving - all anyone could ask for in a dog!)

i am a softie...if it were me, i would.
how does your DH feel - did your DH change his mind? will he help you out? Should be ok since he's house trained. Does he chew things?

Re: tell me I am crazy
my DH would bend and let us keep the dog. My crying all day yesterday didn't help his case haha. I know I COULD keep the dog if I wanted to.
BUT how do I know he will be ok with the baby - or I will have enough attention for both?

Re: tell me I am crazy
I REALLY wanted to get a dog, but once we started TTC I changed my mind because I was afraid it would be too much. But if I had found I dog I think it would be hard to give up. If he's already trained it shouldn't be too much work. Is your yard fenced? If I had to walk the dog I would prpbably say no.

Re: tell me I am crazy
I don't think it's crazy, as long as the doggy has a good temperment. DH and I started TTC in August, and we adopted a doggy in September, putting us in a similar position. You'll be amazed how well your little doggy fits into the picture and makes him/herself comfortable within a matter of weeks... 2 months is plenty of time to get all the adjustments out of the way!
Edited to say - we made our lives a little easier by fencing in a little doggy run and cutting out a doggy door so our little pup can go outside whenever he wants. That will definitely make things easier for when the little one comes along.

Re: tell me I am crazy
yes my yard is fenced.
It just keeps haunting me that maybe I found the dog for a reason - or he found me.

Re: tell me I am crazy
I don't think you're crazy at all! If our landlord told us today that we could get a dog, I'd do it in a heartbeat and I'm due in two weeks!

Re: tell me I am crazy
well - I just suggested to my husband that maybe we give it a whirl.
The woman who has him now said she would take him back if the dog is a problem with the baby....
I still think I am crazy - but maybe that's ok?!

I don't think it is crazy at all. I would keep the dog without hesistation. Another thing, and depending on what you believe in, there is a reason the dog is there for you and your family and everything happens for a reason.

Re: tell me I am crazy
I love dogs...I just want to say that upfront, so that I don't get bashed for saying this.
I wouldn't adopt this dog. Not this close to when your baby is due. My biggest concern would be that you do not have enough time to really get to know this dog's temperment before the baby will come into the picture. And the dog will not have much time to get to know you and build trust, before a new baby steals your attention. That could cause a problem, and you don't want to find out the hard way (god forbid!) that this dog has a jealous side.
JMO. Good luck whatever you decide!

Re: tell me I am crazy
We got a dog 3 months before my 1st daughter was born and let me tell you WHAT A MISTAKE! this poor dog takes such the back seat and she became such a burden. Til this day we regret that we got her, we woke up the entire night that we got her and looked at each other saying "what the he** did we do?!". We love dogs, but the timing was awful! A baby is more than enough work, IMO give yourself time to adjust to the baby, haveing a new baby and a new dog will be like having 2 babies. Good luck!
p.s- if you know nothing about this dog's history, I'd say you were taking a risk. Especially if the dog becomes very attatched to you over the next 2 months and then a baby comes and takes your attention away from him.

Re: tell me I am crazy
I didnt see your post last week, but any chance its an all black dog named "Middy". Someone on the LIF pets forum lost her last week.
But as for your question, I too would say it doesnt sound liek the timing is right.
