tell me in what town.....
in upstate NY can you find:
a 3 bdrm 2 bath house for under $450K (ideally closer to $350K to keep the mortgage down)
no more than 1 1/2 hour commute to NYC (each way of course)
a decent school district
property taxes on average $7K or less
just doing a little research, thanks!

lol no not yet! we'd have to finish our 2nd floor first before we could sell, Mike REFUSES to move to LI, he's a Queens boy what can I say  I have family in Wappinger Falls and Fishkill, we were there last weekend (just off 9W and Main St) for my family reunion and everytime I'm there I daydream of living there! looking up house prices there are some really nice ones in the $350K range, even w/ room for my mama (since she lives w/ us). I would move in a heart beat especially if I have a shot to possibly not work when we have kids if our mortgage is low enough....my only problem is moving away from my sis in Levittown.....I would move out by her, but Mike won't budge! and btw, whichever Johnson moves first, my MIL WILL be following! Phil & Ann just sold their place in Ozone Park, they're headed for Wantagh, now that Mike & I started talking upstate she doesn't know what to do, now I've confused her!  hope you're doing well Gabi, your girls are GORGEOUS!

Tell Mike that you hate to break it to him but Queens is part of Long Island!!   Then proceed to look out in suffolk county where you get more land/house for the money!! Just kidding! I totally hear ya... we'd love to move upstate or waaaay out east, but the commute bl0ws and we need to be close enough to Mike's kids. I hope that you are able to find exactly what you want when the time comes. We are all doing great!

This is definitely a nice area. MY DH is from Hopewell Junction. I think his parents just sold their house for about 450k, but their house was in mint condition. The area itself has developed quite a bit in the last 8 years and it has a nice community feel to it.
my only problem is moving away from my sis in Levittown.....I would move out by her, but Mike won't budge!
This is where I am originally from and I would visit my DH on a regular basis. It is about an hour and a half, which makes it do-able for a day trip.

My family lives in Hopewell Jct, it is beautiful. My mom commutes to the city every day, and that have a grogeous house on almost 2 acres, you can def find what your looking for there

his family out on LI has told him this many many times! he's stubborn though so he'll never change his mind, I was hoping his brother moving would do it, but nope!

thanks for your input! 450K for a mint condition house is great news! you really get so little for your $$ in Queens, other than the proximity to NYC. my backyard is a slab of concrete I would love to have even a half an acre! I love 9W and all the restaurants and shopping, something severely lacking where I live right now (ok well plenty of restaurants but I do all my shopping on LI!). good to know it's only an hour & a half to Levittown!

thanks! do you know about how long her commute is? does she drive to a train station up there or take a bus? when I put in upstate addresses on hopstop.com to my work address, the default setting is subway/rail only so it included 45 minutes of walking to the train glad I noticed that pretty quickly or that commute would've DEFINITELY been out!

It's about an hour and 20 min to Grand Central, she uses the Beacon train Station, so she takes I84 right to Beacon it's a 10 min driver for her. So total with driving to train is an hour and a half each way
