Tell me your Closing story
I'd love to hear all the gory details. What went wrong, what went right.
Tell me a story.

Re: Tell me your Closing story
Ours was LLLLOOOONNNGGGG.....
We had the EASIEST closing in history - not an ounce of trouble...except...the weather! We closed the day of the bad snow/ice storm in March.
The closing was originally set for 2. That morning they pushed it back to 2:30. We arrived with the seller and realtor (followed them from walk-thru) around 2:45. The title closer arrived about 3. Our lawyer about 3:15......................... ................................ ................................. .................................. .................................. ................................... .....................the seller's lawyer....5:45pm! Everything finally finished up around 6.
There was a LOT of time waiting...
Other than that...it was very cut and dry. Smooth.... Thankfully!

Re: Tell me your Closing story
We tried to get the seller to compensate us $500 to fix a gas burner on the stove, a leaky valve in the shower, and base molding on a wall. They would not offer us a thing... he was such a jerk. It was not like we were going to walk away from the deal, so we just swallowed it. The sellers were not very cooperative through the entire process, so I am happy it is over!

Re: Tell me your Closing story
Ours was VERY easy. An hour and a half, no problems at all and we got money back
ETA: Our seller was OOS already and the lawyer had power of attorney.

Re: Tell me your Closing story
ours was fairly easy, but since our sellers moved OOS already, their attorney had power of attorney and he was 1 hour late. Oh, and the seller's realtor lost the keys (we were all searching for them for about 20 minutes, which seemed like enternity).

Re: Tell me your Closing story
ours was very easy.. we did the selling of our condo and then the buying of our house one after the other- the lady buying our condo was so nice-and so excited...we bought her a little something... the seller's of our house did not show up-the house had been empty for a little while anyway- they went back to the house at some point and dropped off a gift for us for when we got there! It was so nice of them! We had a very good experience with our R A and the lawyer (even though he wasn't all that nice, he knew what he was doing!)

Re: Tell me your Closing story
The actual closing was fine. There was some stuff in the garage that the seller didn't remove yet, so we told the lawyer that we wanted it out that day. Our lawyer told them if it's not out, it's $50 a day for every day it remains in our garage.
So THAT day...the day we moved in...the seller's wife came over with a truck and asked my dh and my fil to move the stuff for her. She also hung around asking me questions and telling me about the house while we were trying to move in. Later that week, she had some more people come (while me and my dh weren't home) and take more of "her things" out of our shed. That's when the police and our lawyers were called and the things were returned. My dh told her that if he sees her on our property again...she will be arrested.

Re: Tell me your Closing story
Closing was a breeze - we were in and out in under an hour We used the mortgage division at the bank we do our banking at - minimal paperwork needed since it was all on file - and the Executrix for the estate was also an attorney - so there were only a few people in the room. Got our keys...went to our house, opened a bottle of champagne and drank it in our new yard. Then we started weeding. LOL
It was the months leading up to the closing that was insane for us.

It was great - only took 1.5 hours. I love the sellers - they were sooo nice!

Re: Tell me your Closing story
Ours was easy. The only thing that was wrong was that I was sick. I was so sick and coughing on everything and everyone..I had been sick for weeks. I was ending a job that I was miserable at and it was draining me.
Everyone stayed away from me at the table and everytime I coughed I did it in a tissue. I went to the bathroom several times to cough as well. More tissues than you could imagine.
later that night we went to celebrate while packing by drinking some champagne. I really wanted to drink it so I did. I paid the price later. It dried me out so badly that I couldn't sleep and made the cough worse!
By the time we moved in I was fine, but weeks before and throughout the packing it was a nightmare.
Oh, we got back about $1300 at closing.
