Usually she just falls asleep after eating. No real routine yet. She's a horrible napper.

this was our routine at 4 mos and still is at 6 months. i kind of like it since she can fall asleep anywhere and we're not locked into a schedule.

Re: Tell me your nap routine for your 4 month old

Well for bedtime, our routine was almost an hour worth of stuff. Lights low, read books, dance, bath, massage, read books, drink bottle, sing, play music to sleep.

Our nap, was like 1/3 of this, except I never ever feed before a nap, only feed before bed. DS was a wonderful napper (most of the time - milestones screw us up every time)

At 11m months our routine is simpler, we read only one book and only if he needs a little more soothing do I do the singing I used to do. Sometimes I just sing during changing. It helps him wind down.

our routine from 2 months on (shes 7 months now) was: go into room, close lights, white noise machine, change diaper, put into sleepsack (used to be swaddle), rock and pat back a bit while singing or shushing.

thanks all, really trying to get DD to take longer naps. She takes 30 min naps about 4 times a day- everything I've been reading says they should wake to feed but I am wondering if maybe feeding her before may make her sleep longer...

I try to follow the "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Weissbluth rule of no more than 2 hours of "wakefullness." In the a.m., M barely makes it to an hour before she shows signs of sleepiness. At the first yawn or rubbing of the eyes, I put her down for a nap. She usually wakes around 7, naps from 8 until 10 or 10:30, then naps again around 11:30 until 1 or 1:30

I feed her upon waking, then do an activity of some sort (which sometimes just means plopping her in the bumbo while I get her sister's lunch ready), then down for another nap.

Afternoons she only seems to catnap, but I'm working on that. The better she naps, the better she sleeps, or falls asleep, at night.

Edited because I screwed up the times. Also, it also depends on what time she wakes up in the a.m. for her first bottle.

DD is 4 1/2 months. She nurses about an hour before she naps. When it's time for sleep, I just swaddle her with the SwaddleMe, walk her upstairs to her room, put the her music on, tell her, "night night, mommy loves you." and put her in the crib with the binky.

Not much of a routine, but enough so she knows it's time for sleep and usually falls asleep right away.

DD used to take 4 30 minutes naps also. I worked on trying to help her sleep longer by trying to catch her right when she woke up after a half hour.... I would be right htere to put the binky back in to "keep" her asleep. Not sure if that helped her, or if she just naturally grew into taking longer naps.

Now she takes 2 or 3 naps.... a total of 3 1/2 hours of nap per day usually. She is usually up for 2 hours between naps. She wakes around 830, naps around 1030. Her next nap depends on how long she sleeps for the first nap.

HTH!

IMO feeding more does not equal longer sleep. I think what they need for good long deep sleep, is to be mentally as well as physically exhausted, just like adults!

wake, eat, and play!! let her be on the floor kicking exploring playing, bouncers don't really ware them out the way just being on the floor does and don't give them toys that make them zone out. Active play and fresh air, these were my must do things, to get DS to nap a solid 2 hours twice a day.

I dont believe feeding her before will make her sleep longer. sometimes it has the opposite effect bc the body needs to digest, and expel and these could possibly cause wake ups. i think a lot of babies go through the cat nap stage. i would usually go in and rock my DD back to sleep and she would sleep for another 40 minutes. as she learned to self soothe, i would leave her in the crib and within minutes she would fall back asleep again.
