Telling your boss...UPDATED.
When did you tell your boss and coworkers? I'm a little scared...I just started this job 2 weeks ago...this is my 3rd Monday here.
I have every intention of returning "immediately" so it's not that...I am just nervous I suppose.
How did you do it?
well...i told them..i work in a small office [most of our employees are "in the field"] so i just got my boss and our HR guy together and told them together. aaaaaaaah....relaxing now! they were thrilled and not at all "wierd" about it!
thank goodness!

Re: Telling your boss...
How many months are you??? I waited til i was 4 months before i told my bosses. If they would have required me to do some heavy movement, i would have told them sooner.

Re: Telling your boss...
I'm waiting as long as I can.
At least the 12 week mark.
I do have to move heavy stuff, but my husband works here too, so we've been using him on the sly to carry my stuff back and forth!!

Re: Telling your boss...
The same thing happened to me. I started my job on June 26th and I found out I was pregnant on July 16th. I was nervous in telling my boss, but he was great about it. I am also planning on returning immediately

Re: Telling your boss...
I wouldn't tell until 12 weeks, and then just be clear that you have every intention of returning to work. I'm sure as long as they don't think you're deserting them, they'll be happy for you. Not to mention, you may not qualify for much leave since you just started.

the only sucky part is that i have no insurance for about 10 more weeks. However, after my 90 days, I am fully eligible for EVERYTHING based on time....EXCEPT that in January, I become fully eligible for all benefits for the year....so it is actually great. I don'thae to wait a year to take my 2 weeks of vacation..in theory i could take them in January...i'd be an idiot, but i could. I'll probably have to tell them NOW because i need a list of in-network drs....i don't have a dr. on LI.

I would think that you could get the list of doctors without telling them why you need it. You could ask for a list of all doctors (not just OBs). I don't think it's unusual to want that even when you're not PG. If you have to get more specific, you could say that you need a GYN/OB for you own reasons. I would wait until the 12 week mark. JMO. Good luck!!

Re: Telling your boss...
I'm trying not to tell for as long as possible. I don't trust my management and I don't want them to see my pregnancy as lack of commitment and have it affect my annual increase and bonus. I would like to give them more credit but they have a reputation for treating women badly.
At this point I have no idea when or how I'm going to tell but hope I can hold out until February

Re: Telling your boss...
I told them a few days shy of 12 weeks. I had to- I was going back to start the new school year and the desks were stacked on top of each other, and there were boxes of library books to be moved. I have never been one to ask for help with this sort of thing, so I knew that if I asked for help they'd either figure it out or figure I'd turned into a prima donna. But it was worth it- people were very nice and helpful and I was wiped out anyway- can't imagine doing all that myself!

Re: Telling your boss...
I had to tell my bosses earlier. First of all, one of my bosses is my good friend, so I told her right away.
My other boss was told because someone quit my very small firm and I just had to tell him at that point. Plus he smokes cigars and we needed to get new smoke eaters, etc.
I am annoyed b/c my boss told everyone that we work with and I am not quite 11 weeks, but my other boss (his daughter) just says it is because he is excited.

Re: Telling your boss...
I told at 12 weeks, just after I had my Ultrascreen and things were looking good. I had wanted to wait longer, but things aren't great at my company right now and I thought it best to tell anyway so I had time to shift myself into a better position for next year, in terms of the work I was doing.

No, he's changing jobs so there would be a lapse no matter what. Besides, it would cost more to add me to his than to just pay out of pocket a couple of times. His company doesn't cover families for free...mine does, but I just started. He's called all the powers that be to be sure, and it's safe for me to still see the dr. now and still be covered later! Such a relief!

Good. I am glad that you can see the doctor now and not have to worry about it. I was going to see if they could do that. But I wasn't sure of the "legalities".
