Temp increasing 4 days past surgery- normal?
He hasn't had a fever at all til now. Now he is about 1 degree from heading back to the hospital. Is this normal 4 days post-op?

Sounds like maybe he is getting an infection post op. Have you called the ped? I'm not sure what type of surgery he had. How does the incision site look?

It may be nothing but I'd put a call into the doctor just to be on the safe side.

I would watch him carefully, it can definately be the sign an infection is coming on. If it continues, I would call the ped!

Re: Temp increasing 4 days past surgery- normal?
Doctor said a tonsil infection never occurs 3-4 days after surgery and it's more than likely 1 of 2 things:
Dehydration (which we assume it is) or Some lung infection that comes after anesthesia
If he hits 102.5, then back to the hospital. So we are hoping to keep him as hydrated as possible.

When Sara had her tonsils out doc said it is very important to keep her drinking anything at all. Th lack of drinking can cause a fever. From what we experienced, it took a good week for Sara to feel like herself again. She was very mushy and lethargic for an entire week.

We are still here. Fever didn't increase, but hasn't decreased either. So we are just waiting it out. I hope the worst is behind us.

Days 3 and 4 are the worst. TJ had a fever as well. It stinks because you can't give them motrin either which I think works better than tylenol.
They gave you an antibiotic for 10 days, right? That should help prevent any secondary infection.

He has refused the antibiotic. The nurses were very rough with him in the hospital by restraining him and shoving the meds down his throat. he spit it up every time. (And his pain meds too) Once we got home he wanted no part of it still and kept spitting it out as soon as we got it in.
