Re: Temperature related working conditions...
normally in the foodservice if it hits a certain temperature they are suppose to let you leave but they dont. like if it is 90 degrees outside and its hotter inside you dont have to work but they never follow that rule.

If there was, my office would be illegal! It's always freezing in here. I have a heater under my desk all year!

i have to disagree. i believe there IS a regulation about how hot the water can be. if it goes over a certain temp. then it becomes a safety hazard.

It is way too cold at my job And our personal heaters can't be used anymore because they are a safety hazard.

Really? If that's true, I wish I had known that in the past. I once worked in an extremely hot kitchen once a few summers ago and they didn't even have so much as a fan running and we were required to wear a long-sleeved jacket and pants

we have the same problem her today. My fingers were actually blue under my nails. I put in a complaint with HR & Facilities. So far no response.
Unfortunately there is no OSHA regulation. The reason is that there are many different working environments. The regulations for kitchens and the like are set forth by the NYS BOH, not OSHA. Other jobs, such as post office, construction, etc have their regulations set forth by the unions, and are regualtions, not laws.

I wouldn't be complaining if I could still use my heater. My cowokers have complained to HR also and they always say they are working on fixing it. But it is never fixed! I think there should be some kind of regulation because all day long my fingers are like ice, my nose is running, and overall I feel like I have a cold. As soon as I leave the building and defrost I feel better. I wear sweaters and layers everyday, doesn't help. Today the max temperature was 62 degrees. I am starting to record the temps.

Re: Temperature related working conditions...
Those personal heaters are a major problem because of the amount of current they draw.
If too many people have them... you can pop breakers.
If it gets worse... it can start fires.

I think I was not clear. There is not a regulation that you must be supplied with hot water or cold water.
I just called the NY Department of Labor and the woman on the phone confirmed this. She also gave me an example (which I've heard before) about contstruction workers and how they work in very hot and very cold environments and there is no way to regulate temperature for them and that's why temperature is not regulated for others.
If the question is "how hot can water be" that's a different question that I was not answering- I was only giving an example about how miniscule work place regulations are when it comes to comfort

Re: Temperature related working conditions...
I WISH I was too cold at work! The other teachers call my classroom "the petri dish" becuase I have NO windows and I am not allowed to open the doors while teaching because it disrupts the Kindergarten(I teach music). THEN, to top it off, the heat BLASTS in my room. So combine that with nasty middle school body heat and odor, plus the germs flying out of their mouth during chorus, and VOILA! You get the petri dish. I'm pretty sure we have some toxic mold in there too!
