Temping Question...
Are there certain people that temping doesn't work for?
We are taking this month off from TTC so I decided that I'd give in and start temping. I *think* I O'd yesterday. I had a ton of EWCM leading up, and yesterday was my second peak day on my CBEFM.
I'm not sure exactly how it works for temping, but I should be seeing a temperature rise, right? I don't have a coverline yet or an O date (I think it takes 3 high temp days to give me an O date?) but my temperature hasn't gone above my pre-O temperatures. There was a big dip yesterday and it rose today, but not that high.
Could being a mouth-breather affect my temps? What about sleeping with the fan on?
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Re: Temping Question...
There was something on FF about being a mouth-breather. I don't really remember (maybe you can search) but I think it was that mouth-breathing could lower your temp. I have no idea what the reasons were.

Re: Temping Question...
I am no expert but this month the day I ovulated there was a temperature drop. Then the next few days it went up. don't know if that is the way it is supposed to be but I know there is a rise in temps after ovulation.

Re: Temping Question...
I don't know about mouth breathing but the fan should not do anything affect your temperature. Temping should work on everyone, I am not sure why it wouldn't unless you are the type that gets up and out of bed every hour, or you do not take your temp at the same time every morning. You will not be able to tell if you ovulate until your temp raises for three consecutive days, so give it the rest of the month and I am sure everything will fall into place. The first month is the most confusing, I know it drove me nuts.
It looks like you may have ovulated on CD 17, but again, you will know in two more days.
My only other advice is to start temping on CD 1, it makes things easier.

Thank you! I knew you'd answer... you're like the resident temping expert!
I wasn't able to buy my BBT until after CD 1, but next month I will definitely start on that date.
I've been really good with taking my temperature at the same time everyday. I take it every morning at 5:45 on weekends and weekdays, without fail. I always sleep through the night, unless I get up to use the bathroom, but usually that's at least 5 hours before I wake up.
Thanks so much for your help!
I always said to myself that I never wanted to do temping, but now 10 months later I'm up for anything that will get me pregnant!

Re: Temping Question...
I totally am the resident temper!
Like I have said before, I really enjoy temping. Yes it is confusing the first month, but it is amazing what you learn about your body, and it gives me an sense of control. Being that I am a control freak it works out perfect.
Just be patient, unlike other methods, this one is not instant gratification, it takes a bit of time.
I hope and pray this is your month, and feel free to ask as many questions as you need!

Re: Temping Question...
I know for me that the first month of temping was torture and I couldn't understand why my temps didn't seem correct. Looking back at that cycle, it all makes sense. I know it can be frustrating, but it will make sense when you step back after the month and get a sense of your temps during the cycle. You will see patterns in your temps pre-O and post-O. One of my patterns is that my temperature does not immediately rise after I O. It usually takes 2 days for my temp to rise above the coverline. So you may have ovulated on CD17, but your temp may take a few days to rise up. You may see the increase in temp tomorrow. Also, sleeping with a fan does not affect my temps and I do it each night. HTH!!

That's not entirely true. It's rare, but some women don't show a temp shift even though they are ovulating.
That said, I agree that it looks like you o'd on CD17 - if you're taking your temp every day at the same time and there are no outside factors that would've affected your temps on the days when it was relatively 'high' (ie, drinking, fever, etc), then you might be a slow riser, meaning as someone here said, it may take a day or two for your temps to climb above the coverline. Remeber, you're looking for a pattern of low temps and then high temps - individual temps shouldn't matter all that much.
Good luck!

Re: Temping Question...
I did not know that some women do not show a temp shift. I wonder how rare that would be. Thanks for the information!
