Tennis

I'm interested in playing tennis as a way to get more active but have no idea where to start. I actually bought a racket today and am anxious to get started lol.

I am a beginner, so maybe lessons? If i join a club like Sportime, do they set you up with other people to play against? I know one person who plays, but we can't get our schedules to work.

I am in southeast Nassau, but can go to a place in the Melville or Plainview areas if it's good. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Tennis

You can start by taking private or group lessons. Then you can join a league and compete against others at your level.

Have fun! I love tennis!

Re: Tennis

I've thought about taking up tennis... I am in southeast Nassau, too (Bellmore), and I see the Town of Hempstead recreational catalogues always offers day and evening tennis lessons at local parks (Newbridge, Seaman's Neck Rd. Park in Seaford, etc.). I've thought about taking those lessons - because they are convenient and affordable, but haven't done it yet. I am sure I missed the spring session sign up, but they always have it in summer, too. So maybe that is something to consider?

Re: Tennis

I started a few years ago by taking a group lesson at a local tennis club. The more you play, you start meeting other people who play and it gets easier to find someone to hit with. After I got the hang of it, I joined a league so I could play throughout the year and then I joined a usta team to play in season. It's such a great sport!
