Termites vrs Flying Ants
I just had a scare when I went home... there were a ton of these things by my house and I thought they were termites. Thank goodness they were just ants! Anyway, I thought I'd share this image for anyone else who might be concerned.

Re: Termites vrs Flying Ants
I just had those flying ants yesterday. I sprayed Raid everywhere and hopefully I got them all. I think with the change of weather these little creatures start coming out.

thats not true, it could have been termites. if there is a root from a tree under the ground where they were that would be where the eggs were laid. termites only have wings right after they hatch- when you see them "swarming". They all hatch from the eggs and then fly to someplace new- like someone else's house- and then lose their wings.

Re: Termites vrs Flying Ants
anyone know how you know you have termites? Aside from the visable damage to teh wood beams, how can you tell if you have them?
I saw about 10 ant/fly things last week and sprayed the hell of them....haven't seen any since. I can't tell if it was a termite or a flying ant.

Re: Termites vrs Flying Ants
I am concerned about this as well. I have a bunch of those small flying f'ers in front of my house. Not sure what they are.
I have zero terminites in my house right now. When my bathroom was ripped down to the studs... my contractor couldn't believe how great shape the wood was. She said most Levitts have issues with termites.
I think i am going to call an exterminator just to be on the safe side. I asked my wife to talk to the neighbor across the street to get the number of the person they used. Did she go? NOPE.

I thought about this too. Most places give you free inspections anyway....sure they will try and sell you a contract, but I'd hope it'd really only be if you need it.
I want to have someone show me how you see the termites, so I think I'll call someone next week. I just picture these little buggers chomping away at my new wood beams we just replaced

Re: Termites vrs Flying Ants
I had someone over and he wanted to sell me a contract but I dont want to go the "contract" route.
I would rather just spray at the beginning of the season and be done with it. I dont have pets or kids to worry about.
