Testicular cancer surgery and recovery?
My husband just got diagnosed with T.C. and is having surgery next Wednesday to have his testicle removed. Has anybody's DH or a family member gone through this? I'm trying to get prepared for the recovery time after the surgery. I've gotten some conflicting info from the medical staff and just want a lay person's opinion. Thanks in advance!

my BF's fiance had the same thing and his recovery time was minimal. Good luck with everything.

Re: Testicular cancer surgery and recovery?
My step father had TC and had one testical removed. I believe once he had the testical remove, he was given radiation for a few weeks- it slowed him down and made him feel sick while he was getting it- but the doctors gave him something to quell that.
I believe once he finished his course of radiation (which if I remember correctly was a few weeks - mayber 6)? the did a cat scan to see if he was cancer free.
He was, and still is.
Now I believe he goes for cat scans 2 times a year and thereafter 1 time a year as precautionary measure.
for you & DH I have been told as long as it is treated quickly and properly, it is very treatable.

Re: Testicular cancer surgery and recovery?
The one person tha I know of who had it it was caught in the earliest stages. I think the recovery was only about 1 month. I do not recall the post-surgical treatment though, although I do know he was going to the oncologist weekly for bloodwork, then monthly, then bi-annually.
for you & DH

DH was diagnosed with TC last year, and is now in remission - ETA: you have FM.

Re: Testicular cancer surgery and recovery?
Thanks all for your responses! Now I have a better idea what to expect during recovery. We're pretty sure that it is Stage 1 T.C. ( at least the surgeon feels pretty confident). We'll find out for sure after pathology comes back after surgery.
I can't emphasize how important it is that the men in our lives do self-exams. DH's tumor showed up while getting tests for another condition, and we were very lucky that it was caught in the early stages.
Thanks again!

I get the feeling that this is more common among young men than we know - so scary!
