THANK GOD!!!!....................The Dems took the House!!!!
I can FINALLY sleep a little easier at night knowing the GOP doesn't have full control of Congress. I am looking forward to having our system of checks and balances back too!!

Re: THANK GOD!!!!....................The Dems took the House!!!!
Starting in January, the Democrats will control:
The Ethics Committee The Judiciary Committee The Oversight Committee The Intelligence Committee The Ways and Means Committee
Plus quite a few others.
While not completely putting him in his crib where he should be, it will put a lot of restraints on what he can get away with. He doesn't have his dictatorial hold on the government anymore.
Of course, now every one of his failures (which there are many, and will be many more), he'll just blame on the Dem House...

It was so nice to see that sea of blue across the election results. People are fed up and they made their voices heard.

I'm surprised that "Lyin' Ted" kept his job. I was really hoping Beto would win.

Democrats took the NY state Senate for the first time in a very long time so that's something else I'm thankful for.

Me too!! But the good news is, that race WAY too close considering how conservative they are in TX. That speaks volumes!!!!
Love all the women and minorities that won too! NC had a flip to Democrat, Dems picked up seats all around red areas. All and all, it was a good night. It would've been great to nab the Senate too but having a Democratic House will surely make Trump's life a WHOLE lot more frustrating. I couldn't be happier!

Re: THANK GOD!!!!....................The Dems took the House!!!!
Overall, it was a very good night.
The loss of the Senate needs to be understood with context. 1/3 of the Senate is up every 2 years. This particular class of Senators up for reelection was mostly Democrats. Only 8 or 9 Republicans were defending. If it were more equal we could very well have had a much different outcome. I haven't checked the makeup of the next class, but those other 43 Repubs have to be up at some point, so the tide will turn eventually.
It's moot for now, but regarding people who vote one row straight across:
Under normal circumstances, I do think it's ideal to look at where each individual candidate stands on the issues. (I'm different than many because I am an admin of a resistance group and I've done it all - knocked doors, etc. - so I knew about every single candidate except a few judges.) However, these are NOT normal circumstances. The Republican party has moved even further to the right. Red lawmakers fall in line with Trump 99.5% of the time and even that pitiful .5% just saw the loss of the occasional vote of conscience in McCain. And frankly, the Republican platform is a disgrace. I urge everyone to read it. It's based on Christian supremacy, racism, sexism, xenophobia, and at times, blatant ignorance of data that backs up phenomena like climate change and the failure of top down economics. It's all to maintain white male supremacy and the concentration of resources in the hands of those few. While local lawmaking is different and Republican rule is often not as damaging at that level, I want to discourage their rise lest they get launched into national prominence.
And I haven't even mentioned the sick twist Trump puts on this mindset - the mercurial decision making, the indictments, the shameful work ethic, the fear stoking, etc. I could go on but I have work to do. The list is long.
I consider myself very left leaning but not off the charts. I have no problem with capitalism as long as there are substantial safety nets. I don't know if I am ready to "Abolish Ice." I do want border security. Etc. etc. I've been voting for 22 years and I voted Republican exactly twice - once for the late Owen Johnson for State Senate because of a local program he supported that was dear to me, and once for Pataki. But I can't see voting for one anytime soon. Republicans have abandoned moderation, logic, and sanity, and it's my fervent hope that the next generation sees their demise.

Re: THANK GOD!!!!....................The Dems took the House!!!!
I am looking forward to the boost in the stock market out of this. The Dema need to play it smart now that they have the house or they will destroy any chance they have of winning in 2020.
We also need to hope that the Federal Reserve sticks to their playbook.
I hope people realize what is at stake.

I know whats LESS at stake is immigrant, LGBT and womens rights. I am less concerned with the market than my fellow human beings.
