Re: What do you think of this? (a little long)
My mom and I have the same relationship as you and your mother ... we usually don't see eachother on mothers day ,but we celebrate it another day !! We always go to Dh's parents house !! Are you and your mother ok with see'ing eachother another day ? If yes then don't sweat it ,and have a nice day !

Re: What do you think of this? (a little long)
Well, I think since it is your first Mother's Day, people should come to you and you should go to brunch or lunch. IF that makes you comfortable.
That's what we did the past two years (DS was only 2 weeks old my first Mothers Day ) this year I have to actually go somewhere, but I am seeing my family on the day before...

right-- so there is no reason that my dh should take it so personally?
she is just trying to make things easier for us.

Re: What do you think of this? (a little long)
We don't know you and your mom's relationship as you do--but it seems like she's doing the right thing by not trying to inconvenience you, as you said.
On the other hand, how many more people would she add if she came (is she remarried?)...would that make a huge difference?
I agree with Kate; a brunch out is a great idea. And in the end, for me, Mother's Day is really just another day. If you and your mom find a way to get together anyway, eh...not a huge deal.
