Re: MIL watching DS two days a week, wants him to sleep over

If your MIL is doing you a favor, I would do anything (within reason) to make her life easier!

Everyone is different and what works for some people might not for others!

I definitely wouldn't do it.

It's just not something that I have any desire to do at all. My toddler is 3 and twins are 11 months. I am just not into overnight things. I already work FT and feel like I don't get to spend as much time with them as I like. Sometimes it's the "little" times with them that I appreciate most - like car rides, dinner time, bed time, bath time, etc... because we don't do all that much else together during the week. I have never left my 3 year old except when I was hospitalized for a week during my twin pregnancy and then after their birth. They were always home with Daddy.

same as hayley.. For me personally... I wouldn't be able to handle the separation.

I would not do it every week. Maybe 2 of the 4 weeks.

Same here. DS stays the night with my ILs several nights a months but not every week.

But if its only for 1 months what is the difference??

I would do it in a heartbeat. A devoted grandparent is priceless. You are just helping build an incredible relationship.

I would totally do it, in a heartbeat!

If it was anyone other than a grandmother I would have to say no, though.

Go for it! You can get so much done during that time and have even MORE quality time with him in the upcoming days! And its easier on everybody.

This!

My ILs will pick up my DC for a night or 2 every once in a while and I think it is great for everyone. My kids adore that time with their grand parents and have a great bond. I love my children but realize that others love my kids too and I cannot be selfish with them. I love that my kids are loved.

I would do it for the first week and see how it went. No commitments. It would make it a date night or a night to do what you need to do.

I want to think that I would do it, but I don't know that I could. I didn't see my kids this weekend from Sunday at 1pm until Monday morning 8am. I was truly beside myself and wanted to wake them up. That was also the longest I have ever been apart from my baby.

Re: MIL watching DS two days a week, wants him to sleep over

In a HEARTBEAT!!! the kid(s) have a blast, its not really a long time, and you get a bit of quiet..

i don't know...its one of those things..I totally get feeling the way you do, I felt similarly with my first about things. But with two and one on the way, I cherish every freaking moment they sleep out at nana's or my brothers...I love that they have fun, the person watching them has extra bonding time, and I get them right back the next day Chat Icon

I say do it and enjoy it but that is just me!

I would! Its nice for her to get some extra time with him, you'll get a small break, and it sounds like it would just be easier for everyone!

My mom begged me for the longest time to let DD sleep over her house one night a week (she watched her in the evening and my grandmother who lived across the street from her watched her the following day). It took a long time for me to say yes, but it was so nice when I finally did. I missed her, but it was nice to not have one night where I had to rush all over the place. My mom ended up passing away in 2009, so I'm glad she had that extra time with DD Chat Icon

If it were my parents I would have no problem with it at all! They watch my kids and i do anything to make things easier for them. my kids are actually having a sleepiver tonight.
Inlaws would be a different story.

Totally agree.

Re: MIL watching DS two days a week, wants him to sleep over

Absolutely.

We can't have our children as our only things in our lives. We love them to death but we also need me time and couple time with our spouses, so's.

Enjoy it. My kids have no grandparents around to even spend the day with so they miss out on that extra love and attention Chat Icon

I couldn't do it. I would probably cry. If I had another option, like it seems you do, I would choose the option that doesn't take DD away. Being away from DD for 10 hours a day is more than enough for me.

As for date nights, time to do things for myself etc. . .DD is in bed by 7:30 and I can run out for a half hour after work if need be, I dont need to lose a whole night with her on a regular basis to do those things.

If it was me it would not bother me, especially since she would be doing me a favor and I would be saving her the trouble of having to drive out in potentially bad weather.

Exactly. My aunt never had children of her own and my dad doesn't live here so everyone who sees AJ and my aunt think that she is AJ's grandmother and I totally allow it. She is AJ's grandfather's sister afterall. She's been so different with AJ around. She seems to be more 'alive' and happier. I truly believe AJ has added years to her life and given her more reason to look forward to each and every day and weekend. Its amazing. AJ adores her and tells her "Auntie when you grow old, I'll take care of you, ok?" and holds her hand when my aunt gets up from the couch or walks on steps as if she's assisting her. its so cute!

I know my aunt won't be around forever but this bonding is so special. I loathe my step mother and my mother is someone I never want my daughter to meet so this *IS* as close to a grandmother she'll get from my side. Its just one of those relationships thats in possible to describe. Unique in its on way and adorable to witness.

They lunch and brunch together at restaurants, walk the mall together, even sit and drink tea (and milk) while cleaning beans (a hispanic thing). Just traditions being passed on.
