I'm saying this respectfully and not to be snarky because I really do want to understand how others think around this...I'm totally not looking for drama.

If you are still concerned even though you are fully vaccinated and most likely have a booster too- and even children are now eligible to be vaccinated- when do you think you will not be concerned?
Like what will be the tipping point to say- ok I feel back to normal now like I did in 2019?

Because i have seen people say they "aren't doing indoor dining....yet"
And my thought is ok, fair enough...but at this point, when vaccines and boosters are widely available if you are still not comfortable say, indoor dining at a restaurant or gathering with family on a holiday when WILL you be?

Like I'm just curious what the end game will be. The point where people feel comfortable again.

Maybe it's never- and if that's the answer fine- I just kind of wanted to hear other's thought processes here.

Honestly, we may never go back to the way it was in 2019. I may never feel safe in crowded places with unvaccinated and unmasked. Not saying everyone should feel as I feel, but unfortunately, that is where I am at right now.

Thanks. You're absolutely entitled to feel that way.
I was just curious to hear people's opinions and reasoning.

It’s interesting that some feel like this and some live like 2019 and have been for awhile. I wonder if some are more persuaded than others by scare tactics in the media.
Just watched something about a “super spreader” in Las Vegas. Ridiculous as 9 people got Covid out of 17,000. How in the world did they call that a SS but to just scare people.

You need to understand that different people live different lives. It isn’t just scare tactics by the media.

I, for one, have personally enjoyed social distancing in real life. Personal space is different in different cultures. I love that I do not have someone breathing down my neck at the supermarket or on the bus like it used to be. I haven’t had to be the victim to someone’s farts or bad breath in public because of distance and masks. I love that things aren’t so crowded. I never liked that anyway and put up with it only a few times a year for certain festivals.

"It isn’t just scare tactics by the media."

So where are people hearing about cases and stories like the "super spreader" like I heard last night? If not the media, then misinformation or scare tactics from family and friends.

When you are around more people who are living life as normal as they can, it is easier to not fall into the control some are allowing their lives to be taken by.

Why ANY.ONE would listen to someone who they never met and don't know them and never will, tell them they can't spend a holiday with their family and friends is beyond me.

You seem to really have such distrust and feelings of people being controlled and you seem to see things in black and white only. At least on here anyway.

That being said, many people have the ability to decipher news and critically think about something. It doesn’t mean they are being controlled and being scared by friends and family.

Nope I just have common sense and see what has been going on. The things that make absolutely no sense others just follow blindly.
Many are scared and you can see it on this site alone.
It just goes to show you that government knows that they can share and tell many to jump and they will ask how high without even questioning it.

That’s not common sense. It’s called ‘splitting’ and it’s an unhealthy defense mechanism.

Go use your ‘common sense’ and live your own life. It’s not harming you in anyway if someone wears a mask or stays out of crowded areas.

Nah I see more than black and white but I do see how these pandemic had turned some people into having so much anxiety and losing their common sense.

It’s only harming others in the long run as they are losing out on so many things and seeing loved ones and it is sad. I feel bad for them but that is their choice as I made mine to live as normal as I can a long time ago.

To the OP - if you are all vaccinated you don't have to quarantine for exposure so I am not sure what the issue is. Are you afraid you will actually contract covid? If so, it won't matter where the people are immediately before they see you - they would have had to have contracted it a few days earlier in order to be contagious. Either way, I would just let go of your fears and live life how you normally would have because you can get covid when you least expect it and give it to others when you least expect it.

Ultimately, only you can decide what you're comfortable with.

I would say that if being with your family will make you happy, do it.

I am not letting COVID have any control over my life anymore (I mean, I haven't for awhile...but I used to, say, check the daily statistics to keep informed, and I don't even do that anymore...I can't constantly think about COVID), except when I am forced (e.g., masks at force). I'm vaccinated--3X now--and the shortness of life and how much time has already been taken from us are much more terrifying to me than anything else.

Everyone has different perspectives on this though.

"the shortness of life and how much time has already been taken from us are much more terrifying to me than anything else."

This should not be a different perspective for anyone, IMO.

I did not go through all the posts but I am so disheartened by the fear this "flu" puts in people. Yes it has some serious consequences. But statically looking at kids Motor vehicle deaths has been the leaking cause of death with 1.9% chance of kid dying in a MVA vs 0.00-0,25% of them dying from covid.

Not to mention the flu is actually more deadly in children than Covid, statistically

Yet back in the good old days of say 2019, I never once heard anyone questioning if they should go to a Thanksgiving dinner because some family members may not have had their flu shots, even though they and their kids did have flu shots.

Oh you will get crickets from this bunch about that.

I don’t care what they say, they are letting the media and learning as they go experts rule their lives. I can’t imagine someone telling me who and who I can’t go see.

That is just insane and to expect people to test so they can have some stuffing and pumpkin pie makes me think some people can be easily brainwashed and can’t even think clearly anymore.

I will be eating with all but maybe 1 (child whom, who knows, might be vaccinated for all I know) vaccinated people on Thanksgiving. I will also be the only one who can prove I don’t have Covid as I get tested and they don’t.

Sorry but I feel if everyone is vaccinated then the non should not be an issue. Holidays should not be stopped as well as any get togethers.

Agreed. If you don't feel safe vaccinated, then I guess my question is- when will you EVER feel safe?
When will we ever have a normal holiday.
If the vaccine isn't enough to let you move forward with life, then nothing ever will be.
Covid will never be going away- it will be with us forever.

This! You've taken all the precautions you feel necessary for your family. The vaccine is not 100%, nothing is unfortunately. There will never be no risk to COVID or any virus for that matter. Anyone who is waiting for that will live in perpetual fear for the rest of their lives.

If you choose to live a new normal you will have to choose the effects that may have like not celebrating holidays with families, vacations, etc. Personally I would still go, you're taking a risk anytime you go anywhere even with masks and vaccines. I much rather take the risk to celebrate with family then miss out for fear of the maybe.

This! PC (pre-covid) unless you had a fever over 100 you were going to family parties. The kids could be sneezing, coughing, sleeping in the next room but you were there lol. Now if you clear your throat you need 10 pages of documentation saying your Covid free before you are welcome.

I was just about to comment the same. Myself and my kids have had headcolds or whatever and never canceled plans with family. Now a great majority in NY is vaccinated and still worried to exit the door. Why? If your vaccinated and your kids are vaccinated then why are you worried about the unvaccinated? Shouldn’t the vaccination keep you safer then them? It’s just nuts how it’s been 2 years and people still don’t see it.

I'm tired of people thinking that every unvaccinated person has covid. They don't. Plus, vaccinated people are getting covid like crazy. We are having Thanksgiving with both vaxxed and unvaxxed together. I think that whoever does not feel comfortable should definitely stay home. But it is unfair to not allow unvaxxed to come at all because it doesn't make any scientific sense.

Re: Thanksgiving and Covid

If it was just the matter of 1 person who isn’t vaccinated , I wouldn’t be terribly concerned. But people coming from all over and not knowing their vaccine status, social life, lack of distancing etc- I would be weary. Based on the fact that your husband is compromised, you should really only be surrounding yourself with those who are on the same level as you (precautions, vaccines, etc)

I’m having TG at my house and Inviting more than usual. All vaccinated. My mom is one of the guests and she is elderly with COPD. So I purposely did not go to an event I normally would have taken the chance and attended because it’s too close to TG to get sick and get better and have it safe for her.

You’re going to get so many opinions. Hear more of the “why did you get vaccinated if you’re still afraid” replies. It’s a very personal decision.

Re: Thanksgiving and Covid

Everyone also needs to remember that a house full of vaccinated people can get abd spread covid too though.
My coworker has it now. She's vaccinated. She believes she got it from her friend who is also vaccinated and had it.
So vaccine status shouldn't even be as much a concern as maybe how these people are living...(traveling, using mass transit, being in crowded places a lot, wearing masks etc)

A.men. Many unvaccinated have to be tested regularly so they know they are not sick. I have been tested 8 times in the last 8 weeks. I have proof I am not sick. A vaccinated person does not unless they have to test also.

Re: Thanksgiving and Covid

I’m not understanding this post. Vaccinated people don’t have to quarantine.

I’m seeing so much about this topic- thanksgiving with unvaccinated family members and I’m utterly confused. What difference does it make any more? Vaccinated people are contracting covid in droves! An urgent care nurse on Long Island told me the last few days they’ve had so so many covid cases - all vaccinated people! I have a friend that had the booster a month ago and just got covid! If you are letting the unvaccinated guest be your deal breaker that makes zero sense to me at this point!

For the poster that asked people that still aren’t living normally when they would be comfortable to do so - I’m one of those people - I will be comfortable when they have a vaccine or treatment that actually works. But we are still headed deeper into the rabbit hole as evinced by this post of not wanting to attend a gathering because of an unvaccinated person when all the vaccinated could be carrying and spreading covid just the same. Let’s keep mandating and profiting the pharm companies for their vaccine that doesn’t work. Zero incentive to make a better one.

What makes sense doesn’t really matter for the OP as Thanksgiving is soon, so I’ll put that aside. The OP doesn’t really state her reasons, but it seems that she doesn’t want to have to quarantine her son again because he won’t be fully vaccinated at that point. Even if OP is vaccinated, then she would have to stay home with her 10-year old son making her and/or her husband miss work to stay with him, I guess. Do 10-year olds stay home alone these days?

At least that is what I got from her post. Would be great if the OP could clarify exactly what the issue is.

I think she is overthinking it honestly as wouldn’t 1 shot help out if anyone IS even sick?

I would say depends on the 10 year old and how long they would have to stay home. I honestly don’t even know the rules anymore as I turn the channel and scroll past most Covid and vaccine stuff anymore. I don’t know many people outside of here that are still worried to the point they won’t see others and not living life almost normal now.

I would probably go but I would also be washing my hands incessantly and reminding my kids of the same. Before Covid, people still got sick from family gatherings with the flu, stomach viruses, etc. Everyone is sharing the same serving utensils, not washing hands, etc. I can't tell you how many times I've been at a get together and 2 days later several attendees are sick. But, not usually us since I've always been that crazy person about washing hands, etc. Bring the alcohol wipes, leave sanitizer around the serving tables, remind everyone to wash hands, remind everyone to cough or sneeze in their elbow and you will probably be fine. Covid isn't just airborne, people are forgetting. Hand washing will always be the number 1 way to prevent disease and illness. Probably why the numbers are creeping up.

I am a hand washer, always have been, more than others at times but my family.....smh...not sickly people either.

I think illness has a lot to do with genes and how well you take care of yourself.

Many don’t fuel themselves up and wear themselves out and lower their immune system to illnesses.

With places packed all over the place, I don’t believe numbers are creeping up. I honestly got off the Suffolk Health site that I went on for the daily numbers as they won’t let people comment anymore and while I didn’t comment, I think that says a lot as most weren’t even saying anything bad.

Vaccinated counts as 2 weeks after the second shot.

If OP misses work then this could be a very valid concern for her.

I guess now they consider it 3 shots. Even that is not working either though.

I see the missing work bit but that would be with anyone illness I would think.

I don't know. My sister has covid, she's been battling it for almost two weeks now. She is very healthy, in shape, exercises.

And what do places being packed have to do with numbers not going up? I'm confused by that statement. Places are packed, people don't wear masks anymore, which would explain an increase in numbers. Especially during cold and flu season, which we are currently in.

Vaccinated counts as 2 weeks after the second shot.

If OP misses work then this could be a very valid concern for her.

I guess now they consider it 3 shots. Even that is not working either though.

I see the missing work bit but that would be with anyone illness I would think.

We are not sitting here and debating the third shot or if it works or not.

Yes, it could be anyone with an illness. But right now it is 10 days quarantine with someone who is technically unvaccinated. Those are the facts and that is what is happening right now. Maybe it will change, who knows?

If I were OP and this were the situation with work, yes, I would reduce my risk as much as possible.

If it isn’t a work situation, then that’s her personal choice and how comfortable she feels.

Uggh that stinks. Is she vaccinated?

My point is that if so many are sick, places would not be packed. There have been no super spreaders and it is football and hockey season with people packed in. Bars/restaurants/clubs are packed every weekend.
