thanksgiving guests who don't rsvp until the last minute?
there has been a sudden change of thanksgiving plans for me and now i'm making it. since its at my house now (vs. my aunt's) we're adding a couple of extra guests. I'm making the call tonight and need to explain that i need to know by tomorrow night - sat a.m. latest - if they're coming b/c i need to rush out and get food. now two of those guests are notorious for not giving a response until the very last second (like the day or two before).
If you were in my shoes what would you do if these people didn't tell me by my deadline? Would you buy as though they weren't coming or buy as if they were to be on the safe side? something else?

I would call them back before I went shopping and ask what their answer is.
Honestly, we've never run out of anything on Thanksgiving - there has always been way more than enough food to go around, even when there are 16 of us + kids.

For just a couple of people, I would just assume they are coming and if I end up with extra leftovers, no biggie.

I agree. I don't see how 2 extra guests would make or break the amount of food.

I would buy as if they were coming. If they don't more for you an DH or send guests home with doggie bags.
