Thanksgiving in restaurant?
Anyone do thanksgiving out?
Is the food as good as homemade?
No one has the room to host so my mom does it but it's getting to be too much for her and she doesn't like helpers. But she might consider a restaurant. We have alot of kids though too.

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
No freaking way would we ever. We did an Easter one year and it sucked. I would never for thanksgiving. Maybe just do a buffet style at home.

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
I did a few years ago. Went to Ben's. It was good, not like homemade but we all enjoyed it.

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
People in my DH's family do if no one offers to host. They do the same for Easter.
ETA I prefer home made but the food is fine depending on the restaurant

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
We've done Thankgiving out...years ago when my parents were in the midst of moving out of state and most of my siblings were in apartments. Nice not to have to clean up! No lazing around the house watching football, though.
My inlaws have brought Thanksgiving dinner in from Zorns. With most of dinner already made, it cuts down on a lot of the prep. We still made some of our traditional dishes ourselves. Maybe this is a good compromise??

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
I'd be so disappointed if we had Thanksgiving in a restaurant. I love all of the cooking, gorging, and relaxing. Being in a restaurant wouldn't feel the same. I've had turkey dinners out (not on the actual holiday) and while they are good, they aren't as good as homemade. JMO.

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
we did it a couple of times while living in NJ.
it was ok, but nothing like a holiday dinner at home. it felt like any regular day that you go out to eat. there was nothing special about it... it was a buffet and they had all sorts of foods... again, the spread was so diverse, it didn't feel "holiday."

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
I'm the only one in my Family that has the room to host a holiday but I can't afford, nor do I want to, have every holiday at my house. So for thanksgiving and/or Easter we go to Westbury Manor and it's really good. We always enjoy it when we go.

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
Not Thanksgiving, but we do Easter out. It's so much easier.
I see nothing wrong with it. I would choose a nice place with a traditional menu. If its a good restaurant I don't see why the food would be bad.

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
Even if the food is good, the setting may not seem right if you are used to Thanksgiving at home.
This year, we went out for Easter instead of having it at home. We went to my favorite restaurant in the world, and the food was amazing; however, I actually cried before we went because it just didn't feel like Easter.
I am going to do my best to never do that again.

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
Amazing. Best thing we have ever done. So civilized- you walk in, get seated, get served. Then you walk out- no clean up, no mess. No cleaning for days before and after. No prepping, shopping, cooking, slaving.
Food at the Snapper Inn where we go is amazing. Just like homemade. And if some don't eat Turkey, they have so many other options.
It's decorated beautifully with a Christmas tree etc on Thanksgiving. Water views.
Never again will I do anything else.
The only thing I won't do is a buffet- I hate buffets. Standing on line, slopping too much food on your plate, it all mushing together. I like to be served

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
I don't think I'd enjoy thanksgiving out, especially with a lot of kids. What about having it catered? I doing think it would be the same as homemade (at least in my family). My ils get Christmas catered by iavarrone and it's good, again not quite like homemade but they're not big eaters.

Would your mom consider catering it in her home?

Re: Thanksgiving in restaurant?
We have gone out. There aren't any good cooks in our family so the food is better. The only thing I don't like is you eat and go home. When you have it at home people hang out more and the holiday lasts longer. Catering is a good option.

Thanksgiving in restaurant?
I go with my husband and son every year to carmines in Atlantic City for thanksgiving. I do not like turkey so we get Italian food, but they do a traditional thanksgiving dinner that looks amazing too. We love it. My son asks to go to "the hotel" all the time now.
It also makes it so we don't have to choose which side of the family to go to.

yes, my family did this twice. The most recent was just me and my parents, yrs ago. It was fine, not as crowded as lets say Mothers day.
