The 22nd Amendment..anyone wanna help my brother out?
He has a paper to write..
He basically would like to hear peoples views on doing away with the 22 amendment...stating the President is only allowed to serve 2 full terms.
How do you feel about it and why?
Do you think that there are pros/cons to getting rid of it? Keeping it? Please share.
He needs feedback from a wide source..so of course I told him I would come to my good ole boards! Thanks!!

I really don't see the point. If someone is in office and the public approves and wants to reelect him/her, why not? If it an't broke why do you need to fix it?

Re: The 22nd Amendment..anyone wanna help my brother out?
Personally I like the 22nd amendment. I don't want any person to have that much control for too many years. It's just not what this country is built on. We need change otherwise the way the other terms for top people would change over while someone is in office and the next thing you know you could have one party totally controlling this country which is not at all what we should have. One of the good things about our system is the check and balance system that we have with the different branches of the government. If one person stays in office too long that checks and balance system will not be easy to keep.

ITA. The good thing about the ability to serve 2 terms, is that sometimes it takes more than 1 term to make any good changes. But at the same time, if the current president is heading in a direction the country isn't happy with, we can vote him out after 4 years.

Re: The 22nd Amendment..anyone wanna help my brother out?
The only president to serve longer was FDR and some felt he became too powerful and interfered with checks and balances.
The founders were afraid of hte president turning into a king like figure and built this in as a sort of safety clause.
