the bad part about being a working mom...
is getting a phone call from the nanny that your child did something big for the very first time and you weren't there to see it. 
i am SO proud of my little guy but i am totally tearing up here at work.

I agree. I'm sure she was excited, but I don't think she should have told you. It would have been great to let you discover it yourself.

It doesn't count unless mommy sees it.
Besides, you don't have to be a working mom to miss stuff-you could miss stuff just by leaving the room or running an errand. Don't feel badly

ITA and when DS was in daycare, they didn't tell me! You could ask your nanny the same

I agree with PPs, it doesn't count until he does it for you!
I think it's my daycare's policy that they don't tell unless you ask to know, cause everyone's kids seemed to to everything first at home and what are the odds of that

My FIRST day back at work DD rolled over from back to front. I was so sad, but we had a GREAT night that night when I watched her do it for the first time.
I'm sorry you missed it

i should clarify - my nanny is my sister, and as DS's aunt, she was just telling me because she was so excited. i am not upset that she told me, really. i am just sad that i wasn't there to see it happen.
and i could tell her not to tell me, but i know her, and if i told her that he did something for the "first" time she'd tell me "yeah, he did that last week for me..." 
but now i am SO excited to go home and see him do this!! 
ETA: i didn't tell DH, i can't wait to see his face tonight

The part that makes me  is that he did it b/c mommy and daddy worked with him on it. You helped and gav him the confidenc to do it!
