The celebration tonight
The music line-up looks great for tonight!
Trump had Three Doors Down and Smash Mouth and Toby Keith, and those are the only names I knew.
Tonight looks fun. Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry....Lady Gaga was great today. I thought J Lo was just ok.
At least the “liberal elite” has better music.

The celebration tonight
I thought Jlo was an odd choice. Lady Gaga was fantastic. She killed it.

Re: The celebration tonight
Will try and watch but will have to find a smaller TV elsewhere as it is The Challenge night and I lose out on the newer, bigger TV

Lady Gaga, loved it!
Why would JLO be an odd choice, she’s Hispanic and a singer? It’s all about diversity. I know many people probably missed her messaging but she basically told the whole country, “justice and freedom for all” (in Spanish), told all minorities to “Get Loud” because this “Land was Made for You and Me!”
I’m obsessed with JLo but she isn’t the type of performer to give me chills. She did today. I loved it. Obvi. Lol!

Yes I figured that is why she was chosen. I'm just not a fan lol.

I enjoyed it and agree with the above, it did feel like hope. I really loved seeing the former presidents together and I loved the ending. I am really looking forward to the next four years!

I liked seeing ALL (except Carter, but he's not physically up for the trip anymore) the *Former* Presidents... the EX-President wasn't there, but he's irrelevant.
It wasn't subtle that they kept referring to the "Peaceful Transfer of Power"...

i also loved their song choices. Each with a very clear message that fit the day so perfectly.
My one word to describe the whole day yesterday: flawless
and with all the things i've read today it just got more perfect: the uniformed man at Beau's grave, Doug's ex-wife being there to support Kamala, all the executive orders.
Anyone else feel giddy and excited?

SO giddy and excited!!! For the first time in 4 years I didn't wake up with a sense of dread. Every day under Trump was one $hit show after another, today I woke up and just breathed easy.

No one slept well at our house last night. I think it was because we were too excited!
DS screamed in delight when they announced we've rejoined the Paris Accords and that they won't be drilling in Alaska. He love nature and wants to save all the animals. lol SO giddy and excited!!! One of my favorite things about Inauguration Day (besides the celebration of democracy) is seeing all the former presidents get together 45 was, of course, not missed and I was glad he wasn't there taking up space and taking away from the day. I hope he never shows up to any future inauguration. From what I understand he is not welcome in the former presidents club either lol. That's a level of camaraderie there that crosses party lines that won't be extended to 45 lol.

I thought this was really cool, too...
Connetquot Central School District At today’s presidential inauguration, Connetquot Central School District alumnus Master Sergeant Matthew S. Byrne played “taps” on the trumpet during the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Byrne began playing the trumpet as a fourth grader at Helen B. Duffield Elementary School and graduated from Connetquot High School in 1991. The district proudly congratulates Byrne for this monumental achievement.

even more special as DH loves music above all and my godson also started the trumpet in 4th grade.

Re: The celebration tonight
Loved it last night. OMG... the fireworks!! Wow!
I can't wait to go back to DC. We used to go every couple of years but haven't gone the last 4.
Of course will wait a bit till then.
On a side note... was it me or did Pence seem way more relaxed?! first time I ever saw him more social and even looked like he was smiling. LOL When him and his wife were talking with Kamala and Doug he seemed almost... normal.
Of course they usually don't have that, but since Trump wasn't there

He did seem more relaxed. A little more personable too. I still think he's a tool but I get the sense that this insurrection and calls for his head were a bit of an eye opener for him. I think he is glad to be away from Trump now.

The celebration tonight
I think what made it really special was to think about how just a couple of Wednesdays ago, there were radical right wing extremists pretending to be "patriots" and then last night there was art and music, people of all colors, TALENT, and love. People who actually CONTRIBUTE to society.
I much prefer our buildings with fireworks rather than Confederate flags.

I thought about that too. How people were killed at that very site 2 weeks ago during the worst attack against our democracy by a lunatic leader.
This is a testament of the strength of our country. We may waver, but we will never fall (as long as we choose democracy.)
