The Cone of Shame - Updated

***Pics added below***

Question:

We were away this weekend, so we had Lexi spayed on Friday and boarded till last night. After we picked her up I noticed that she is peeing a lot - or trying to. I spoke with the vet who says it's unlikely that she has a UTI, since she didn't have any of those symptoms till she came home, but it's a possibility and if the behavior continues to get a urine sample and send it in.

Did anyone experience this with their dog and it wasn't a UTI/resolved itself on it's own?

I got her the Comfy Cone since the one they sent her home with SUX, so I'll post pics later Chat Icon

Small update:

On Wednesday, two days after we brought her home, she was still having issues peeing so we brought her back to the vet and they put her on antibiotics for a possible UTI. She was crated for a few days, had one accident on Friday, and has been great (knock on wood!) since Saturday. She gets her stitches out tomorrow but from what I can see she has healed fantastically.

Re: Excessive urination after spay?

I would be concerned it was one, that maybe since she was boarded she did not have a chance to urinate oiften enough and that led to an infection. Just a guess though.

If you need to collect a sample, take her for a walk and have someone else hold a flat tupperware under her when she squats. That's what we do.

Hope she feels better soon.

Unfortunately she hasn't been peeing enough for us to get a sample - she pees so often it's only drips - and now she doesn't want to eat. We are taking her to the vet this afternoon.

Re: The Cone of Shame

Def sounds like a UTI. Also I hate to suggest this but I would want to mare sure nothing "wrong" happened during the surgery that could cause this (such as a recent poster whose dog's urethra was injured during the spay.

Please keep us posted.Chat Icon
