"The Departed"

DH and I saw The Departed today and were impressed with it. I'm not going to spoil anything, don't worry.

On the drive home, DH decides to call his Dad, who is a movie buff, to tell him about the movie.

So he answers the phone and DH starts telling him about it. DH says, "Martin Scorcese really did a great job, it might even be better than Goodfellas."

To which my FIL says, "Do you want me to tell him you said that? He should be out in a few minutes."

My FIL is an upscale limo driver and apparently, "Marty" specifically requests him whenever he needs a limo. he just so happened to be in the limo, waiting for him when we called. Chat Icon

I keep forgetting the list of people he drives around, because he's so nonchalant about it. My FIL is a very likeable guy, so he gets a lot of return business. Chat Icon

I loved it!

I didn't think it was that bloody but then again, I did just see the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre last Wednesday. Chat Icon The movie is violent but the scenes weren't overkill.

i agree- but the cheif scene was pretty freaking gross....

however the murder part was not scary

the cheif thing really kinda changed the tone of the movie after that

Re: "The Departed"

The movie was great- one of the better movies I have seen in a while IMO- not at all boring.

I didn't think it was too bloody. I mean, there was blood, but to me it was no more over the top than other movies along the same lines.

Matt Damon creeped me out in it- I just was not feeling the slimeball he portrayed, though he did an awesome job with the role.

LOVED Leo in this movie- such a fantastic actor.

The cast was GREAT- all of the actors did a fantastic job in their roles- Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, Jack Nicholson . . . .

I definitely think it is a movie to go and see . . .

We saw it last night. Execellent movie!!!

Matt Damon-slime ball, but did an
amazing job.

Jack Nicholesen-fanstastic

Mark wahlberg, martin sheen, alec baldwin- very good

Leonardo DiCaprio- fantastic, he is truly IMO one of the best actors around today. He is so versatile. I hope this year during Oscar time he does not get overlooked. He did a great job with this character.

Re: "The Departed"

I didn't think it was as good as Goodfellas either. My DH gets carried away sometimes. Chat Icon

I just asked him what "Marty" said about DH's review. He said thanks, and how did he like the DVD? I was like, what are you talking about? He said, remember that Bob Dylan DVD I got from my Dad? I said, yeah. He said, Marty gave it to him to give to me.

Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH neglected to mention that part. Now I feel like we should give him a present as a thank you or something. What the hell do you buy for Martin Scorcese?!

Anyway, I thought Matt Damon wasn't as convincing as a bad guy either at first. But he definitely came off as cocky, and full of himself.

One of the things Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) said is that the characters don't always seem all good or all bad. There's a little bit of each in every character. If you think of it that way, it's easier to digest.
