The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
Right now that hospital that I picked and the one my OB covers is 13 minutes from my apt. We will be moving though, making my new trip to the hospital 35 minutes... DH thinks I should find an alternative..
Is that distance the norm? I think he is just nervous that I will be giving birth in the car, which is funny..
just wondering
tia!

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
Usually with your first child, labor takes quite a bit of time, so it probably won't be an issue. My hospital was about 25 mins from where I lived, and though the ride was fairly uncomfortable, we got there with plenty of time, and then some...

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
My hospital is 20-30 minutes away, with or without traffic. I went into labor both times in the middle of the night, so getting there at 6:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning and 4:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning were no problem!!

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
I don't think a 35 minute drive would be a problem. LIke other people said, you can be in labor for a long time. My mom had us all at Southside in Bayshore and she lived in Ronkonkoma --- and it was about a 25 minute ride or so...and she was always fine even with VERY short labors.
My friend lives in Greenport and made it all the way to Port Jeff to have her babies. It can defintaely be done! Labor is a long process!

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
My hospital was a 40 min trip from my house. I was due at the end of Jan. too so I was really freaked out because of possible snow. You'll probably be in labor a while, I wouldn't worry.

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
my hospital is only 5 minutes from the house but you should be fine. You will probably be in labor for a LONG time with your first

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
My hospital was 13 minutes away. For my first baby, I had more than enough time to get there. For my second, I barely got there in time (I was told that it was rare that someone shows up 10cm dialated).
My sister's hospital was 35 minutes away, she tried laboring at home, finally they drove there in rush hour only to find out she was only 1 cm.
Here's a good way to figure it out... are you a person that has an extremely high tolerance for pain? If the answer is no, you'll be leaving with plenty of time.

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
We were about 20 minutes away and it was no problem at all. You should have some sort of warning and enough time to plan when to leave

Re: The drive to hospital while you were in labor-
It took us about 30 minutes b/c of rush hour and there was still plenty of time.
but there are extremes - my friend had her baby 20 minutes after walking in to the hospital and it was a 10 min trip there.
