The ear piercing experience
So we got Mikayla's ears pierced yesterday at piercing pagoda....DH held her while the lady prepped her for the piercing....she did the left one and Mikayla started screaming (worse than when she gets her shots )...the lady was then just standing there (I do not know if she was waiting for her to stop crying or what) but I said "you might as well do the other ear while she is crying....no need to wait for her to stop just to make her cry again"
So she went to pierce the right ear and mikayla moved her head (I guess dh was not holding her tight enough) and the piercing did not go all the way through so she had to do it again.....Mikayla was screaming her head off, tears streaming down her face.....when it was done, we comforted her and got her to stop crying after a minute or two and then realized that since she was moving around so much, the piercings are not even, one is further back than the other....it is not that big of a deal and I am sure no one will notice (but me)
all in all, it was a very stressful situation but I am glad we got them done...when I was cleaning and turning them this morning, she did not make a peep

It was a freaking nightmare.... She was fast asleep in her stroller 5 minutes later. It is true when they say, it is harder on the parents.....I wanted to sock that lady when she had to do it again cause the post did not go all the way through....my dh was saying "the post is not through, do it again"...I almost

Re: The ear piercing experience
how uneven are we talking? you might hate me for saying this...but if they are truly uneven, take them out, let them heal and do it again...she'll hate you more later when they are uneven in pictures.
(i had a friend who had 2 holes and one day i asked her why she had 2 holes at our age...we were 10...she told me it was because the first set was so uneven it was the only way to hide it)

Yikes. I'm so afraid of this, but I'm definitely getting DD's ears done so I'll just have to suck it up. I'm sure they look precious on her though...do you have pics?

Re: The ear piercing experience
If you end up taking them out and getting them done again you should ask them to do both at the same time. Two women will have to do it. They will mark her ears and make sure the marks are even and then at the same time they punch the hole through. Fast and the pain is only once.
Sorry she had a rough time but I am sure she looks adorable.

The lady would not do it like this...I called claire's and they would not either, they said they do that with older kids

Re: The ear piercing experience
I don't have pierced ears myself and I'm not trying to flame you, but why would you do this on a baby that is so young? It's not like there is a miss-able window of opportunity to do ear piercing. Why put your DD through the pain (more than shots, as you say) simply for aesthetics? That said, I'm sure she looks cute!

um, because that is a decision that me and my husband made together, none of your concern, really

I'm so happy my DD ped was able to them.He numbed her ears so she didnt feel a thing.I dont think I would have been able to handle it if she would have felt it. Dont worry its over and I'm sure she looks beautiful.

Re: The ear piercing experience
We got my daughters ears pierced yesterday too at out Doctors. She cried more when they were marking the spots of where to put them. It was hard watching her cry - I cried too - my husband thought I was nuts. But the doctors numbed her ears and said they really don't feel much - he said shots are worse on them. It is really hard to get them to sit still. But once it was over she stopped crying and fell asleep. I love the way it came out and have no regrets doing it at 2 months old.

Awww poor baby. Just know - she would have cried like that even if they did it right the first time. She's over it and I'm sure she looks adorable! But I totally would have been so upset if that happened!
