Haiti has been through so much. Many, many prayers for all those affected by this. I hope all those with family there are able to get in touch and get good new as soon as possible.

It's really horrible. I have lots if students who have family there and my BIL's has family there as well. It's also really close to here if you think about it...

I initially thought that my family would be spared since most are in the US, but I found out last night that my aunt and uncle happened to be there this week on vacation. We haven't heard from them, so we don't know if they are OK.

I just read a book about an American doctor, Dr. Paul Farmer, who spends as much of his time as he can possibly spend in Haiti working and trying to build hospitals and improve basic conditions there... he basically chose the poorest place he could find so that he could do the most good and has been working there for 20+ years and built his organization, Partners in Health, from nothing, despite people telling him that it was impossible.

so tragic...I was just looking at the pictures on MSN and the devastation is just unfathomable...I had to stop looking when I came across the man holding his daughter, who seemed about DD's age, and she was dead...
I can't say enough prayers for all the residents and their families. To those of you on here looking for family/friends, my heart goes out to you and I pray you will receive good news soon.

for everyone this has affected.
Those who are still waiting please try and stay positive. Two of my co-workers received word finally that their families are ok. Another friend's nanny is still waiting on news about her family.

I would say that between 30-40% of the students at my school are Haitian - we have quite a few teachers and staff as well - it's awful.
