I initially thought that my family would be spared since most are in the US, but I found out last night that my aunt and uncle happened to be there this week on vacation. We haven't heard from them, so we don't know if they are OK.
That i what we thought but we found out DH's uncle is there. He was supposed to return today.

Finally got word that some members of our family are fine. DH's mother, and 5 siblings are there, and they are all ok. When he finally heard his mother's voice, he sobbed like a baby. It was very hard to watch, but he was so happy to find out that they were fine. We also found out that a few family members of our very close friend died This is just to hard to bear.

 Glad you hear the family is ok. So sorry to hear about the colse friend.

So sorry about your friend's family.
This is just so devistating. The front page of the daily news this morning put tears in my eyes.

God is good.... We heard from my aunt and uncle and they are OK. 
Now trying to convince my dad that he doesn't need to get on his 9pm flight to DR. He doesn't want the $2k to go to waste and figures he can go help. He had a heart attack a few years ago and can't do any physical labor.

This is just so devastating. I have been praying everyday. I have so many co-workers that are missing family members and one of my clients lost several family members
